Cornelia Barkalow was born in 1811. She was the daughter of Derrick S. Barkalow and Margaret Low. Cornelia Barkalow died in 1888; did not marry.

      Alexander Low Barkalow was born in 1815. He was the son of Derrick S. Barkalow and Margaret Low. Alexander married Rebecca (Unknown). Alexander Low Barkalow died in 1890.

     Rebecca married (Unknown) Emmons; 1st marriage Rebecca. Rebecca married Alexander Low Barkalow, son of Derrick S. Barkalow and Margaret Low.

     Catherine married Henry Disbrow. Catherine Hendrickson was born circa 1706 at Monmouth County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Daniel Hendrickson and Catherine Van Dyck.
     Catherine Hendrickson was also known as Katherine Hendrickson.

     Henry married Catherine Hendrickson, daughter of Daniel Hendrickson and Catherine Van Dyck. Henry Disbrow died on 10-Dec-1749 at Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
     He was also known as Henry Dusberry. He was also known as Henry Dusenberry.

     William Hendrickson Disbrow was baptized on 12-Oct-1743. He was the son of Henry Disbrow and Catherine Hendrickson. William married Angelie Shaw on 23-Jan-1769.

     Mary Hendrickson was baptized on 17-Mar-1765. She was the daughter of Col. Daniel Hendrickson and Catryntie Van Brunt.

      Mary Holmes was born on 6-Jun-1794 at Pleasant Valley, Monmouth County, New Jersey. She was born on 13-Jun-1794. She was the daughter of Maj John S. Holmes and Sarah Hendrickson. Mary married Col. Albert Van Brunt, son of Nicholas Van Brunt and Mary Wyckoff, on 14-Nov-1813. Mary Holmes died on 15-May-1862 at age 67. She died on 27-May-1876 at age 81.

      Col. Albert Van Brunt was born on 31-Jan-1784. He was the son of Nicholas Van Brunt and Mary Wyckoff. Albert married Mary Holmes, daughter of Maj John S. Holmes and Sarah Hendrickson, on 14-Nov-1813. Col. Albert Van Brunt died on 16-Jun-1857 at age 73.

      Catherine Holmes was born on 27-Dec-1795. She was the daughter of Maj John S. Holmes and Sarah Hendrickson. Catherine married Daniel H. Ellis, son of Charles Ellis and Mary Hendrickson. Catherine Holmes died on 30-Oct-1869 at age 73.

      Daniel H. Ellis was born circa 1797. He was the son of Charles Ellis and Mary Hendrickson. Daniel married Catherine Holmes, daughter of Maj John S. Holmes and Sarah Hendrickson.

      Eleanor Holmes was born on 5-Sep-1805. She was the daughter of Maj John S. Holmes and Sarah Hendrickson. Eleanor married Charles Hasbrouck. Eleanor Holmes died on 17-Dec-1880 at age 75.

      James Grover Hendrickson was born on 19-Feb-1791 at Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. James married Hannah Morris, daughter of Robert Morris and Mary Faesch, on 3-Mar-1813. James Grover Hendrickson died on 22-Oct-1859 at Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 68.

      Hannah Morris was born circa 1792 at New Jersey. She was the daughter of Robert Morris and Mary Faesch. Hannah married James Grover Hendrickson, son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover, on 3-Mar-1813.

      Samuel Hendrickson was born on 26-Jul-1793 at Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. Samuel married Phoebe Mount. Samuel Hendrickson died on 18-May-1871 at Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 77.

      Phoebe Mount was born on 7-Apr-1796 at New Jersey. Phoebe married Samuel Hendrickson, son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. Phoebe Mount died on 9-Oct-1858 at New Jersey at age 62.

      Theodosia Hendrickson was born on 2-Nov-1795 at New Jersey. She was the daughter of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. Theodosia married Forman Hendrickson, son of Jacob Hendrickson and Elizabeth Mount, on 6-Mar-1823. Theodosia Hendrickson died on 4-Mar-1879 at age 83. Theodosia was buried after 4-Mar-1879 at Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Allentown, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

      Forman Hendrickson was born on 30-May-1791 at New Jersey. He was the son of Jacob Hendrickson and Elizabeth Mount. Forman married Theodosia Hendrickson, daughter of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover, on 6-Mar-1823. Forman Hendrickson died on 17-May-1880? At age 88. Forman was buried at Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Allentown, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

     Elizabeth Hendrickson was the daughter of Forman Hendrickson and Theodosia Hendrickson. Elizabeth married Jacob Ellis, son of Charles Ellis and Mary Hendrickson. Elizabeth married John Wetherill.

      Jacob Ellis was born on 17-Apr-1811. He was the son of Charles Ellis and Mary Hendrickson. Jacob married Elizabeth Hendrickson, daughter of Forman Hendrickson and Theodosia Hendrickson. Jacob Ellis died on 4-Jul-1888 at age 77.

      Richard Howell Hendrickson was born on 2-Nov-1795. He was the son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. Richard married Lyde Perrine.

     Lyde married Richard Howell Hendrickson, son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover.
     Lyde Perrine was also known as Lydia Perrine.

      John B. Hendrickson was born on 26-Jan-1799. He was the son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. John married Parmilla Grover.

     Parmilla married John B. Hendrickson, son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover.

      Enoch Hendrickson was born on 7-Apr-1802 at Upper Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover. Enoch married Achsah Barker on 9-Apr-1834.

     Achsah married Enoch Hendrickson, son of Daniel Hendrickson Jr. and Elizabeth Grover, on 9-Apr-1834.
     Achsah Barker was also known as Ashsah Parker.

      Helena Denyse was born on 14-Mar-1728. She was the daughter of Teunis Denyse and Catherine Van Dyck. Helena married Samuel Forman, son of Jonathan Forman and Margaret Wyckoff, on 17-Apr-1759. Helena Denyse died on 20-Jan-1789 at age 60. She died in Jun-1789 at age 61.
     She was also known as Helena Densye. She was also known as Helena Denise.

      Samuel Forman was born on 13-Nov-1713. He was the son of Jonathan Forman and Margaret Wyckoff. Samuel married Helena Denyse, daughter of Teunis Denyse and Catherine Van Dyck, on 17-Apr-1759. Samuel Forman died on 18-Jan-1792 at age 78.

      Holmes Conover was born on 9-Jan-1809 at Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Cornelius R. Covenhoven and Mary Stoutenberg. Holmes married Caroline Crawford, daughter of James Crawford and Elizabeth (Unknown), on 3-Mar-1841. Holmes Conover died on 22-May-1860 at Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 51.
     He was also known as Holmes Covenhoven. He held the position of sherriff of Monmouth County.

      Caroline Crawford was born on 28-Aug-1819. She was the daughter of James Crawford and Elizabeth (Unknown). Caroline married Holmes Conover, son of Cornelius R. Covenhoven and Mary Stoutenberg, on 3-Mar-1841. Caroline Crawford died on 28-Aug-1843 at Holmdel, Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 24.

     Abraham Hendricks was the son of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. Abraham Hendricks and Mary Wyckoff obtained a marriage license on 17-Dec-1754.
     Abraham Hendricks served in the Revolutionary War circa 1778.

     Johannes Hendricks was baptized on 8-Apr-1733. He was the son of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. Johannes Hendricks and Phoebe Smith obtained a marriage license on 31-Oct-1759. Johannes Hendricks died on 13-Jul-1760 at age 27.

     William Hendricks was baptized on 25-Dec-1736. He was the son of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. William Hendricks and Charity Robinson obtained a marriage license on 21-Dec-1756.

     Condrat Hendricks was baptized on 27-Aug-1738 at Old Brick Church, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. Condrat Hendricks and Mary English obtained a marriage license on 18-Jun-1759 at Old Tennent Church, Tennent, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Condrat Hendricks and Mary Knott obtained a marriage license on 17-Jun-1763 at Old Tennent Church, Tennent, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Condrat married Ann (Unknown) after 1770. Condrat Hendricks died on 13-Jul-1784 at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, at age 45. Condrat was buried at Loyalist Burial Ground, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Fleeing the United States during the American Revolution, Conradt Hendricks wound up in Saint John, where he remains to this day ... in Loyalist Burial Ground.

As you drive past or walk through the Loyalist Burial Ground, have you ever found yourself wondering about the people buried there? Who were they? What were they like? What did they go through those many years ago?

I can't tell you about everyone buried at the scenic cemetery, but thanks to. Dr. Andrew A. Hendricks of Lumberton, N.C., I can tell you a bit about the first person buried there of whom there is still a reminder.

An article written by the late Dr. C. McN. Steeves in number 16 of Collections of the New Brunswick Historical Society states: "The first burial of which there is a reminder today was that of Conradt Hendricks, who died July 13th, 1784, a little over a year after his arrival here ... His tombstone was probably erected when two other members of the family were placed beside him."

Based on Dr. Hendricks' research, we know that Conradt Hendricks was born in Middletown, N.J., and baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church (Old Brick Church) in Marlboro, N.J., on Aug.27, 1738. His parents were Johannes Hendricks and Sarah Mesier who owned large tracts of land and mills in Monmouth County, N.J. Johannes was the son of William Hendricks and Wilhelmptje Laen van Pelt who settled in Monmouth County, N.J., as early as 1693 after moving from Albany, New York to Flatbush, Long Island, N.Y., and then to Middletown, N.J. His great-grandparents were Hendrick Willemsz and Gisseltje Bradt of Rensselaerwyck, now Albany, N.Y.

Conradt Hendricks was a captain of the New Jersey Volunteers for the Loyalist cause and was forced to flee to Canada in 1783. He died on July 13, 1784.

His first wife was Mary English, who he married at Tennent Church, Tennent, N.J., on June 18, 1759. They had one child, Elizabeth Hendricks, baptized Nov. 22, 1761, at Tennent Church. She died the following year and is buried at old Tennent Church. His second marriage was to Mary Knott on June 17, 1763, also at Tennent Church. He married a third time probably after 1770 to Ann (Nancy?). His third wife later married John Sinnott, a gentleman of Saint John. She recovered damages as Ann (Nancy) Sinnott from the U.S. government for Conradt Hendricks' confiscated property near Whale Creek, Matawan, N.J.

Conradt Hendricks had three sons, John, James and David, probably by his second wife. His son David stayed in New Jersey but his other two boys moved to Saint John where James Hendricks was a prominent merchant (his papers are in the New Brunswick Museum). He also had another daughter, Sarah Hendricks probably by his second wife. Sarah died on July 29, 1795, at age 19. She is buried at the Old Burial Ground in Saint John.

Conradt's Son James is thought to have married Lana or Lenah Stillwell in 1807. He was a merchant in Saint John. They had at least one son, Conrad John Hendricks, who married Charlotte M. (?), He was a farmer in the Parish Norton, Kings County. Their possible children were George N. Hendricks, Charles J. Hendricks and Conrad J.Hendricks.

Johannes Hendricks and Sarah Meiser, the parents of Conradt Hendricks, inherited the Messier farm and mill in 1784. This is the present site of the World Trade Center in New York City.

Another interesting fact is that the 1750s Dutch farm house of Conradt Hendricks' first cousin, Hendrick Hendricks, in Holmdel, N.J., is open to the public for tours. It is run by the Monmouth County Historical Association.

This family is an example of how the American Revolution divided families. At least one of his brothers, Abraham, and many of his cousins fought on the American side in the American Revolution.

     Mary Hendricks was baptized on 4-Apr-1744. She was the daughter of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. Mary married Thomas Hendricks. Mary Hendricks died on 5-Nov-1768 at age 24. Mary was buried at Brick Church Cemetery, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

     Sarah Hendricks was baptized on 28-Jun-1747. She was the daughter of John Hendricks and Sara Mesier. Sarah Hendricks died on 28-Feb-1772 at age 24; did not marry.

     Elaxander married Altje Hendrickson, daughter of Albert Hendrickson and Joanna Mills.

      Joseph Holmes was born on 1-Apr-1772. Joseph married Mary Bruere. Joseph was buried at Yellow Meeting House Cemetery, Red River, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He died on 16-Jul-1815 at age 43.

      Elizabeth Holmes was born on 27-Nov-1768. Elizabeth married Samuel T. Wikoff on 24-Nov-1791. Elizabeth Holmes died on 24-Dec-1834 at age 66.

      Mary Bruere was born circa 3-Mar-1774. Mary married Joseph Holmes. Mary Bruere died on 28-Jun-1833. Mary was buried after 28-Jun-1833 at Red ValleyYellow M.H. Yard, Imlaystown, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
     She was also known as Marie Bruere.

      Joseph Holmes was born on 11-Jul-1849 at Cream Ridge, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Joseph Holmes and Martha Ann Meirs. Joseph married Helen Giberson, daughter of James Stout Giberson and Sarah Holmes Imlay, on 14-Aug-1873 at Cream Ridge, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Joseph Holmes died on 10-Aug-1941 at Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 92.

     Phoebe Smith and Johannes Hendricks obtained a marriage license on 31-Oct-1759.

      Jacob Vanderbilt was born on 13-Apr-1759. He was the son of John Vanderbilt and Elizabeth Hendrickson. Jacob Vanderbilt died on 26-Jun-1813 at age 54.

     Charity Robinson and William Hendricks obtained a marriage license on 21-Dec-1756.

     Charity Hendricks was the daughter of William Hendricks and Charity Robinson. Charity Hendricks died on 23-Dec-1761. Charity was buried at Brick Church Cemetery, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

     John Hendricks was baptized on 19-Nov-1757. He was the son of William Hendricks and Charity Robinson.

     Mary English and Condrat Hendricks obtained a marriage license on 18-Jun-1759 at Old Tennent Church, Tennent, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Mary English died on 26-Oct-1762.
