John T. Hendrickson Dies Of Cancer
He Was a Well-Known Farmer and Lived on the Turnpike Between Middletown and Keyport - His Funeral Held This Afternoon

John T. Hendrickson, who lived on the turnpike between Middletown, and Keyport, died on Sunday of cancer of the stomach, aged 63 years. He had been sick since May. He was the son of Cornelius Hendrickson. The house in which he died was built on a part of the homestead farm on which he was born and on which he had always lived. His father lives at Matawan and is 85 years old.

Mr. Hendrickson married Catherine Conover of Manalapan, who survives him. He also leaves two children. They are James H. Hendrickson, who lives across the road from his father’s late residence, and Mary Hendrickson, who lives at home. He leaves also three brothers and two sisters. They are William T. Hendrickson of Middletown, Samuel Hendrickson of Chicago, Edward Hendrickson, who when last heard from was in Dakota; Mrs. Richard Roberts of New Monmouth, and Mrs. Charles A. Geran of Matawan.

The funeral was held this morning at eleven ‘clock at the New Monmouth Baptist church, of which Mr. Hendrickson was a member. Rev. W. V. Wilson conducted the service, assisted by Rev. M. M. Finch. The body was buried in Fair View cemetery.

The pall bearers were John H. Willey, Benjamin Taylor, G. C. Morris, FitzRoy Walling, Henry Frost and Benjamin Griggs.

      Congressman Elmer Hendrickson Geran was born on 24-Oct-1876 at New Jersey. He was the son of Charles A. Geran and Lydia Hendrickson. Congressman Elmer Hendrickson Geran died on 12-Jan-1954 at age 77.
     He held the position of Congressman, 68th Congress from New Jersey between 1923 and 1925.

Elmer Hendrickson Geran (October 24, 1875, Matawan, New Jersey - January 12, 1954, Morganville) was an American Democratic Party politician who represented New Jersey's 3rd congressional district from 1925-1927.

Geran was born in Matawan, New Jersey on October 24, 1875, where he attended the public schools and Glenwood Military Academy. He graduated from Peddie Institute in Hightstown, New Jersey in 1895, from Princeton University in 1899, and from New York Law School in 1901. He was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1901 and commenced practice in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1911 and 1912, and a member of the New Jersey State Water Supply Commission from 1912 to 1915. Geran was assistant prosecutor of the pleas of Monmouth County from 1915-1917, and was again a member of the Assembly in 1916 and 1917 and served as minority leader. He served as sheriff of Monmouth County from 1917 to 1920. He was appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey by President Woodrow Wilson in 1920, resigning in 1921 to resume the practice of law in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Geran was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress from March 4, 1923-March 3, 1925, and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress.

After leaving Congress, Geran resumed the practice of his profession until September 22, 1927. In 1927, he became associated with the New Jersey Gravel & Sand Co. at Farmington, and was serving as vice president and treasurer at time of death. He died in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, New Jersey on January 12, 1954, and was interred in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent, New Jersey.

JOHN "T." HENDRICKSON SR., 88, of MIDDLETOWN, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21 at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. He was born on Cherry Tree Farm, Middletown, on December 30, 1917, to Albert J. and Louise Willett Hendrickson. He graduated from Leonardo High School in 1935 and went on to Rutgers University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1939. In 1918, he survived the flu pandemic. He served with the rank of lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a traffic manager for NJ Bell Telephone Co. for over 31 years, retiring in 1979. "T" was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank-Tower Hill, the Monmouth Boat Club, Schussboomers Ski Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Rutgers Alumni Association, and Lakers Golf League of Shadow Lake. He was an expert skier, a bicyclist and golfer.


"T" was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Nancy Malchow, in 1980 and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Marie E. "Bette" Weigand; a son, John T. Hendrickson Jr. of Freehold Twp; a daughter, Nancy Lou Hendrickson of Neffs, Pa; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A 10:30 a.m. funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation, ICU Unit, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, NJ 07740.

     Daniel Schenck DuBois was the son of William H. DuBois and Margaret Polhemus Schenck.

     Williamptje Schenck was baptized on 29-Aug-1731. She died young after 29-Aug-1731. She was the daughter of Peter Schenck and Jannetje Hansen Van Noostrand.

      Jan Schenck was born on 10-Jun-1733. He was the son of Peter Schenck and Jannetje Hansen Van Noostrand. Jan Schenck was baptized on 10-Jun-1736 at Old Brick Church, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Jan married Mary Van Couwenhoven.

     Sara Schenck was baptized on 17-Jul-1737 at Old Brick Church, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Peter Schenck and Jannetje Hansen Van Noostrand. Sara married Joseph Bowne on 12-Jun-1757 at Monmouth County, New Jersey.

     Peter Schenck was baptized on 24-Feb-1739/40 at Old Brick Church, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Peter Schenck and Jannetje Hansen Van Noostrand.

     Mary Schenck was baptized on 25-Apr-1742 at Old Brick Church, Marlboro, Monmouth County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Peter Schenck and Jannetje Hansen Van Noostrand. Mary Schenck died on 17-Jul-1821 at age 79.
     She was also known as Maria Schenck.

      Daniel J. Hendrickson was born in 1797. He was the son of John Lloyd Hendrickson and Mary Lloyd. Daniel married Margaret E. Smith. Daniel J. Hendrickson died on 24-Dec-1845.

     Mary Hendrickson was the daughter of Daniel Hendrickson and Eleanor Van Mater.

      Collin B. Meirs was born on 7-Sep-1833 at Upper Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Thomas Shinn Meirs and Rebecca Hendrickson Conover. Collin married Louisa Butterworth.
     Collin B. Meirs was also known as Collin Meirs. He held the position of auditor of Monmouth County for seven years.
