JAY CONOVER, 75; EX-US EMPLOYEE, WATERCOLOR ARTIST:
Jay Parsons Conover , 75, an artist who exhibited watercolors in galleries here, died Saturday at Holy Cross Hospital after a brief illness. He lived at 3003 Dawson Ave., Silver Spring.
     
Mr. Conover, who was born in Brooklyn, NY., retired in 1951 after more than 40 years of government service, which included working as a postal employee in Texas and in the forms and publications department of the Veterans Administration here.
     
In 1916 he was called to Army duty for patrol on the Mexican border. During World War 1 he was a yeoman in the Navy.
     
He won a scholarship when he was 16 to the National School of Fine Applied Arts. He also belonged to the Student Art League.
     
Mr. Conover had a one man show at the Arts club of Washington in 1955. He was a member of the Washington Water Club.
     
His works were exhibited at the Smithstonian Institution in 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1963, and at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1954, 1956 and 1958. He also exhibited at out of town galleries.
     
He leaves his wife, Eleanor M., and a sister, Mrs. Edith C. Bancroft of Holland, NY. Services and burial will be tomorrow in the Farmingdale, (NY) National Cemetery.
