THOMAS STRONG Part 3.




WILLIAM STRONG (a2d1)1 son of Thomas Strong (a2d), born about 1768 in Virginia. William married Jane "Jennie" Callahan around 1793. Jane "Jennie" Callahan was the daughter of Edward Callahan and Mahala Brock. Jennie died around 1815. William Strong remarried Patsey Pennington on July 7, 1816. William Strong moved to Russell County, Virginia from Rockingham, North Carolina. According to James Rolff, William Strong (a2d1), his father-in-law and several related families later settled on the north fork of the Kentucky River in Clay County, Kentucky. In 1801 Edward Callahan, William Strong, Roger Cornet, Robin Cornet, Daniel Davidson all started their move into Kentucky. William purchased land near the north fork of the Kentucky River near a creek named "Strong's Branch" of the Grapevine Creek. This is where he built his cabin and lived for the next 10 years. He also became a Deputy Tax Assessor for Clay County and a Baptist Preacher. William also became involved in the "Cattle War" that began in 1806. William was the leader of what was called the "North Forkers". The fight was between land owners on the north fork and the south fork. William Strong owned around 1800 acres in Kentucky. According to "Cornstalk Militia of Kentucky, 1792-1811", by Glenn Clift, William Strong was a Lieutenant in the 56th Regiment, 3rd Division, 7th Brigade, of Floyd County, Kentucky.

JAMES STRONG (a2d2) son of Thomas Strong (a2d), was probably born between 1766- 1770 in Halifax County, Virginia.4 James Strong married Elizabeth _______________ in Rockingham County, North Carolina. James Strong died before 1845 in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

JOHN STRONG (a2d3) son of Thomas Strong (a2d), born before 1774, possibly in Halifax County, Virginia.5 In 1795 John Strong married Sarah Grogan in Rockingham County, North Carolina.6 John Strong lived in Rockingham County, North Carolina. John Strong died after 1830.

THOMAS STRONG (a2d4) son of Thomas Strong (a2d), born in 1774 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. On December 24, 1795 Thomas married Annie Fields in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Annie was born October 6, 1777 in Rockingham County, North Carolina and was the daughter of John Fields and Mary Gibson. In 1806 Thomas Strong moved from North Carolina to Russell County (Scott County), Virginia. This was where Thomas Strong's brothers, William Strong (a2d1), had moved in 1793 and Samuel Strong (a2d5) in 1796. Thomas lived near Samuel Strong (a2d5) on Copper Creek, in Russell County (Scott County), Virginia. Thomas was a magistrate in Scott County, Virginia. Annie Fields-Strong died on November 11, 1838 in Scott County, Virginia. After Annie's death, Thomas Strong (a2d4) married Judith Poston-McHenry in Scott County, Virginia. Judith was born in 1796 in North Carolina and the daughter of William Poston. Judith was the possible widow of John McHenry. Thomas Strong died July 10, 1858 in Scott County, Virginia.

SAMUEL STRONG (a2d5) son of Thomas Strong (a2d), was born February 4, 1777 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Samuel Strong resided in Russell County, Virginia from 1795 until 1811. Samuel the moved to Monroe County, Kentucky between 1811 and 1812. Samuel Strong is presumed to have died around 1850 possibly while traveling to Missouri with his family. Information on SAMUEL STRONG (a2d5) and his descendants will make up Chapter 3.
