My great-grandfather Thomas McCall was the first of my McCall ancestors to have been born in Scotland. I have little information about the man himself. Curiously, his place of death (from a heart attack) is given errorneously at the level crossing at Dundyvan Road, whereas it happened in a nearby shop.
But being born in Langloan, the heart of the Iron Burgh's heavy industry, it comes as no surprise that he followed in his father's footsteps as a blast furnaceman, and it was through an accident at the steelworks he had to have an arm amputated.5
