Big Barren Creek runs more or less along Highway 33
to the Clinch River in Claiborne
County, Tennessee, and has, through the years, been
home to many of the Walkers and related families and
is the home of the Claiborne Boat Dock. Except for a
minor body of water also shown on the map below, Big
Barren Creek is the next creek west from Straight
Creek. Highway 33 continues to the northeast through
New Tazewell and Tazewell, ending in US-25E which goes
through Cumberland Gap.
As with the other TVA reservations, very little of
the area was actually flooded when TVA build Norris
Dam, but TVA purchased some lots at the time on the
creek which are still owned by the utility. The utility
also produced a series of what they call Stage D maps
of the area and the landowners they bought out and other
nearby lots; a link at right points to where other maps
can be ordered.
A small portion of Straight Creek is included on this
map, but a more extensive map of Straight
Creek is available. As with all TVA maps on this
site, links are to my family file when landowners appear
there; some are best guesses as to identification.
