Refuge Cemetery, Houston County, Texas

This cemetery is located in far north Houston County, on Hwy 227 east of Grapeland. Additional information that is in (brackets)was provided by a living descendant. "my grandfather, Henry Clay Ingram moved here in 1903 from Georgia and bought 179 acres surrounding the Refuge cemetery then 1 acre large donated by Jim [James M]Brown in 1889, he enlarged the cemetery and built a tabernacle there and preached there, he was a Primitive Baptist Preacher and later on Walter Ingram [who had a sawmill just below the cemetery] donated some more land for the cemetery."
