"To the Honorable Supreme Court next to ... be holden at New-Fane within and for the County of Windham on the Fourth Tuesday of January next, Humbly Sheweth
Lucinda Wells of Rockingham in the County of Windham, and State of Vermont, that at Charlestown in the County of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire, on the Fourteenth day of June in the year of our Lord 1810, she was lawfully married to Horace Wells, then of said Rockingham, now gone to parts unknown to your Petitioner, by Frederick A. Sumner, Esq. one of the Justices of the Peace within and for the County of Cheshire aforesaid, and from that time to the 10th or about the 10th day of March in the year of our Lord 1812 she lived with the said Horace Wells in the strict observance of all the duties required by the marriage covenant, when the said Horace, at said Rockingham, without any provacation on the part of your petitioner, wilfully deserted your petitioner, and she has ever since been obligated to rely for a meagre and precarious subsistence upon her own personal labour and the charity of her friends.
