    Willis A Wells Dies At Buckland
    Shelburne Falls, Aug. 15 – Willis A Wells, 65, died this morning at his home in Buckland following several years illness. He was born in Conway September 3, 1871, but had lived in Buckland many years, coming there with his parents when young. He was a son of Austin S. and Sarah (Townsend) Wells, and one of the best known residents of the entire section. He was well known throughout New England where he visited many places during his 28 years in the apple business. He was a representative of the Ballston Refrigeration Storage company and a well known orchardist.
    He married Winifred B Sears of Buckland in 1893 and she died March 13, 1931. There were four children born of this marriage.
    In 1935 he married Mabel Boyd of Buckland.
    Mr Wells was a member and officer of the Buckland Center church and of the Bucland Grange.
    He leaves his widow, and two daughters, Mrs. Genevra Jubinville and Mrs. Eleanor Goodnow of Buckland, two sons Ralph W of Shelburne Falls and Enoch S. of Conway; two sisters Mrs. Minnie B Tower of Buckland, and Mrs Sara Greer of North Adams, and several grandchildren.
    The funeral will be held at the Buckland church Tuesday afternoon at 2. Riv. Joseph V Harrison, a former pastor, and Rev Howard Gould, present pastor officiating. Burial will be in Buckland Center cemetery. [published Springfield Republican Aug 16, 1937]

    Funeral of W. A. Wells
    Shelburne Falls, Aug 17 – The funeral of Willis A Wells who died in his home in Buckland Center on Sunday [15 Aug 1937], was held this afternoon at 2 at the Mary Lyon church in Buckland of which he had been an officer and member for many years. Rev Joseph V Harrison, a former pastor of the church, and Rev. Howard Gould, the present pastor, were in charge of the service, which was largely attended by relatives and friends. A delegation of the Buckland Grange was also present at the service. There were many flowers. Burial was in the Buckland cemetery.

    HENRY L WELLS, RURAL CARRIER, DIES AT AGE 95
    Conway - Henry Lewis Wells, 95, of Delebarre Ave, died Saturday evening at Farren Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1869, in New Boston, N.H. the son of Lewis and Celeste Wells, and a resident of Conway the past 85 years. He was married to the former Rose Ayers.
    He was employed for many years as an RFD mail carrier, and after retiring from the Post Office Department, served as Town Hall custodian until five years ago.
    He leaves four sons Arthur of North Adams, Clarence of Conway, Lewis of Greenfield, and Donald of Brattleboro, Vt.; five daughters Mrs Bertha Saltz of North Adams, Mrs Edith Bourn of East Templeton, Mrs Lillian Batchelor and Mrs. Hazel Purrington of Greenfield, and Mrs Evelyn Bridges of South Deerfield; two sisters Mrs Marjorie Farmer of Turners Falls and Mrs Daisy Card of Shattuckville and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Funeral will be Tuesday at 2 at McCarthy funeral home, Greenfield, with Dr Kenneth R Henley officiating. Burial will be in Howland Cemetery. Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

    JOHN S WELLS, DIES AT AGE OF 92
    Conway - John S Wells, 92, of Academy Hill, the town's oldest resident, died Monday at his home. He was born at New Boston, N.H., Sept. 4, 1871, son of Lewis and Celeste (Colby) Wells. He was employed by the town.
    A resident of the town for 82 years, he came here at the age of 10 and went to work at the cotton mill of Tucker and Cook at the age of 14. Later he worked at DeWolfe and Hassell Shoe Shop and the Gordon Johnson livery stable. He also was a bartender for a short time at the Conway Inn and for two years was the town's RFD mail carrier.
    He later was employed by Conway Electric Street Railway and was motorman on the old Conway trolley on its final run in the spring of 1921. For 20 years he worked for the town highway department and, at aged 67, became janitor at Conway grammar school.
    Besides his wife the former Theresa Brinton, he leaves two daughters, Mrs Grace Bassett of Shelburne Falls and Mrs Violet Parker of Conway; five sons, Harry and Roland both of Shelburne Falls, Rodney of Greenfield, Arnold of Conway, and Clinton of Marlboro; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Henry Wells of Ashfield; two sisters Mrs George Farmer of Turners Falls and Mrs Daisy Card of Shattucksville; several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Howland cemetery. Visiting hours are tonight at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the cancer fund.
