    In the name of God, Amen. I JOHN WELLS of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina being in good health and mind and memory blessed be to God for his kind mercy make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in this manner and form as following.

    First revoking all wills heretofore made by me, and for my executor here after named and for what estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I give as followeth viz:

    Item: All the property that I have heretofore given to my son ELIJAH WELLS and have put in his possession including moneys I gave to him and his heirs forever, I therefore, I give him no more.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter MATILDA B. JOINER, four hundred dollars, besides what I have heretofore given to her and to her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter SALLEY POULEN, one negro boy by the name of JACOB and all the property I have heretofore put in her possesion to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter POLLY YOUNG, the lands and plantation whereon she now lives and the M ?
    land lying in Nash and Edgecombe County, say 144 acres to be the same, more or less to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter TEMPERANCE BRASWELL, four hundred dollars to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto six of my grandchildred by the names of MATILDA LEE, WILLIAM LEE, BERRY LEE, EMLY LEE, POLLEY LEE and JERIMIAH LEE, as follows, JERIMIAH is to have at his age of twenty one years old, two tracts or parcels of land lying in the County of Nash and Edgecombe. None by the name of the MARY and DAUGHTRY, this tract has 52 acres and the other 100 whereof JOE LEE, has to be the same more or less and the other named 5 children above, I give and bequeath, two hundred and fifty dollars, provided they shall be any of them to die before getting in possession of the land and money, its part its part is to be equally divided among the surviving parties to them forever.

    Item: I lend the two tracts of land above given to JEREMIAH LEE, from this time to his father, JOSEPH LEE, by his paying the taxes yearly until JEREMIAH LEE arrives to the age of twenty one, provided the said JOSEPH shall live to the age and provided that JERRY dies before one and twenty and his father lives till that time, he is to have the use of the said 152 acres upto that time and no longer.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my grandaughter above named MATILDA LEE, one feather bed stead and furniture and flax wheel that is now in the care of her father, JOSEPH LEE, to her forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto one of my grandsons WILLIE S. WELLS, three tracts or parcels of land, all in Nash County, say 182 1/4 acres be the same more or less 100 of it known as the CROWELL tracts and 8 acres is called the JOINER land on the county line and the 74 1/4 acres joining ANDREW J. WILLIAMS, part of the home tracts surrounded by E.L.CULL and one negro gall by the name of MILBERRY, one gray mare bridle and saddle and 1 shot gun to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give unto D. WELLS, one tract of land in the grant called the E. FLOOD land bought from his heirs, say 133 1/2 acres be the same more or less, in Nash County to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son JOEL WELLS, one negro boy TONEY and what I have theretofore given unto him to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son HANSEAL WELLS, one negro man by the name of CANE and all the rest of the property that I have heretofore given to him, to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give unto my beloved son JOHN WELLS, the balance of the house tract after taking out WILLIE S. WELLS 74 1/4 acres as above named and all the residue of my lands that is not theretofore named, including my houses whereon I live, about three hundred ninety four acres and 1/4 be the same more or less bounded by the grants and deeds. One negro woman and child ISAAC, the woman named is MILB?, one still and one feather bedstead and furniture and all the residue of the property, that I have put in his possesion and given of to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I leave for all the balances of my negroes not name in my will, stock or money and all the residue of the perishable estate not given away that may be found on hand to be sold on a credit of six months and my just debts first paid and the will legacies paid out as name and the surplus part that may be on hand, if any be equally divided between 5 of my children to wit: SALLY POULEN, POLEY YOUNG, HANSEL WELLS, JOEL WELLS and JOHN WELLS, the sale is to be made by my executor, hereafter named.

    In the name of God, Amen. I JOHN WELLS of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina being in good health and mind and memory blessed be to God for his kind mercy make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in this manner and form as following.

    First revoking all wills heretofore made by me, and for my executor here after named and for what estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I give as followeth viz:

    Item: All the property that I have heretofore given to my son ELIJAH WELLS and have put in his possession including moneys I gave to him and his heirs forever, I therefore, I give him no more.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter MATILDA B. JOINER, four hundred dollars, besides what I have heretofore given to her and to her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter SALLEY POULEN, one negro boy by the name of JACOB and all the property I have heretofore put in her possesion to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter POLLY YOUNG, the lands and plantation whereon she now lives and the M ?
    land lying in Nash and Edgecombe County, say 144 acres to be the same, more or less to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter TEMPERANCE BRASWELL, four hundred dollars to her and her heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto six of my grandchildred by the names of MATILDA LEE, WILLIAM LEE, BERRY LEE, EMLY LEE, POLLEY LEE and JERIMIAH LEE, as follows, JERIMIAH is to have at his age of twenty one years old, two tracts or parcels of land lying in the County of Nash and Edgecombe. None by the name of the MARY and DAUGHTRY, this tract has 52 acres and the other 100 whereof JOE LEE, has to be the same more or less and the other named 5 children above, I give and bequeath, two hundred and fifty dollars, provided they shall be any of them to die before getting in possession of the land and money, its part its part is to be equally divided among the surviving parties to them forever.

    Item: I lend the two tracts of land above given to JEREMIAH LEE, from this time to his father, JOSEPH LEE, by his paying the taxes yearly until JEREMIAH LEE arrives to the age of twenty one, provided the said JOSEPH shall live to the age and provided that JERRY dies before one and twenty and his father lives till that time, he is to have the use of the said 152 acres upto that time and no longer.

    Item: I give and bequeath to my grandaughter above named MATILDA LEE, one feather bed stead and furniture and flax wheel that is now in the care of her father, JOSEPH LEE, to her forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto one of my grandsons WILLIE S. WELLS, three tracts or parcels of land, all in Nash County, say 182 1/4 acres be the same more or less 100 of it known as the CROWELL tracts and 8 acres is called the JOINER land on the county line and the 74 1/4 acres joining ANDREW J. WILLIAMS, part of the home tracts surrounded by E.L.CULL and one negro gall by the name of MILBERRY, one gray mare bridle and saddle and 1 shot gun to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give unto D. WELLS, one tract of land in the grant called the E. FLOOD land bought from his heirs, say 133 1/2 acres be the same more or less, in Nash County to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son JOEL WELLS, one negro boy TONEY and what I have theretofore given unto him to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved son HANSEAL WELLS, one negro man by the name of CANE and all the rest of the property that I have heretofore given to him, to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I give unto my beloved son JOHN WELLS, the balance of the house tract after taking out WILLIE S. WELLS 74 1/4 acres as above named and all the residue of my lands that is not theretofore named, including my houses whereon I live, about three hundred ninety four acres and 1/4 be the same more or less bounded by the grants and deeds. One negro woman and child ISAAC, the woman named is MILB?, one still and one feather bedstead and furniture and all the residue of the property, that I have put in his possesion and given of to him and his heirs forever.

    Item: I leave for all the balances of my negroes not name in my will, stock or money and all the residue of the perishable estate not given away that may be found on hand to be sold on a credit of six months and my just debts first paid and the will legacies paid out as name and the surplus part that may be on hand, if any be equally divided between 5 of my children to wit: SALLY POULEN, POLEY YOUNG, HANSEL WELLS, JOEL WELLS and JOHN WELLS, the sale is to be made by my executor, hereafter named.

    Item: I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved son JOEL WELLS, executor to this my last will and testament, given under my hand and seal this the 31st day of 1845. Signed in the presence of us, JOSIAH VICK, DREWRY JOINER
