He is styled Sir in several Charters, and is frequently designed Eques Auratus. Under the Great Seal, he obtained from Queen Mary a Commission appointing him Justiciar within the barony of Mochrum, dated in 1545. ..in 1547..a Commission...as Coroner of the Shire. Sir John also sat as on the jurors who tried the conspirators for the murder of Lord Darnley...He married Elizabeth, daughter of Mungo Mure of Rowallon, by Isabel his wife, daughter of Sir Hugh Campbell of Loudon...about 1549...They had issue two daughters: Grizel...Eupheme...We are inclined to think there was another daughter, named Elizabeth, who married William M'Culloch of Myretoun, in 1574...Sir John Dunbar died in 1583...""
