ABBET, Joseph Elmont "Joe," 92, retired Texaco safety inspector, died Saturday. Service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Carbondale Assembly of God. Moore's Eastlawn.
From "The Tulsa World," Tuesday, September 21, 2004
ABBET -- Joseph Elmont, was born in Depew, OK in 1911 to James and Hazel Kinch Abbett. He passed away peacefully, with family surrounding him on September 18, 2004. Joe was 92 years old. He had humble beginnings, learning through hard work on his family's farm. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was an avid Sooner fan. In 1935 he married Opal Wyndham, his precious wife. They shared a life-long love affair until Opal's death in 2000. Together they raised 2 sons, Joe and Mike Abbet. Both sons predeceased their father. Mourning his passing are grandchildren, Michael Ray Abbet and wife, Sheila, Tim Abbet and wife, Diana, Joe Abbet, Jr., Jerri Smith and husband, Steve, and Patti Abbet. He was very proud of his great-grandkids, Amy Abbet, Jessica Moore and Forrest Linden Abbet. In addition, Joe was blessed with 1 great-great-granddaughter, Sara Abbet. His loving sister, Jean Page of Weatherford, OK also grieves Joe's death. Joe worked for 42 years for Texaco Oil Refinery. He began working as a general laborer and, with experience and further studies, retired as Texaco's Safety Inspector in 1977. He was respected in his field and was the oldest living retiree of Tulsa's refinery. Since 1974 Joe and Opal attended Carbondale Assembly of God Church. Church members were their extended and cherished family. Joe held several positions within the church over the years including a position of secretary on the Board of Deacons, as well as secretary of the Friendship Class. He was most recently a member of the Sunshine Group. Joe's strong faith and wonderful friendships at his church were something he treasured until his last moments on earth. He was blessed to have been part of such a wonderful congregation. In particular, Joe had great respect and admiration for his friend, Pastor Phil Taylor. Joe was known to have a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. With fondness we recall his stubbornness. Joe used it as an asset to make his way successfully through life's tribulations. His energy and enthusiasm for living is remembered warmly. He had incredible grace and a unique sense of style. He was a wise man. We give him to God, knowing that Joe has now joined with his circle of family in Heaven. Funeral service will be held at Carbondale Assembly of God, 2135 W. 51st St., Tulsa on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. JULIA PAULINE ABNER ADAMS
Julia Pauline Abner Adams, 76, formerly of Sapulpa, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 in Greenwood, S.C.
She was born July 10, 1927 in Bristow where she met and married Cloe D. Abner. They moved to Sapulpa, where they raised their three children, Danny Abnet, now of Supply, N.C., Pam Favaro, of Terlton, and Paul Abner, of Oklahoma City.
Pauline was a longtime employee of TG&Y and longtime member of the Sapulpa Church of the Nazarene. In 1974, her husband, Cloe, was killed in an accident, and one year later she married Jim Adams and moved to South Carolina, where she lived until her death.
Those are the facts, but the heart of her story is that she loved God and his light continually shined through her.
She accepted Jesus into her life at a young age and lived a life of love, service and influence. While attending the Nazarene church she was caravan leader, VBS director, Choir member and Sunday school teacher.
She touched the lives of many with her loving spirit and infectious sense of humor. The world is a better place because of her time here. While we miss her, heaven was what she dreamed of and lived for, and today she enjoys the blessing of life with her Savior.
Services and burial will be today at Greenwood, S.C. at Hyde Park Baptist Church.
