SOLE

Services for Erma L. Sole are set for 2 p.m. Thursday in Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe C. Knowles and F.M. Byford officiating.

Burial will follow in South Heights Cemetery under direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sole died Monday at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. She was born Sept. 18, 1909 in Sapulpa and lived here for 50 years.

Mrs. Sole was preceded in death by her husband, H.G. "Gale" Sole. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sapulpa, Home Demonstration Club and former member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Sole was employed for 17 years as an operator for Southwestern Bell in Sapulpa.

Survivors include a son, Ron Sole, Sapulpa; three sisters, Lillian Warren, Blue Bell, Mildred Wolford and Evoda Sampson, both of Sapulpa; and two grandsons, Mark and Mike Sole, Sapulpa.

The family will headquarter at 26 S. Mounds, Sapulpa.

She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Mountainburg, Ark., to Tom and Bonnie Rush and had lived in Sapulpa for 25 years.

Survivors are her husband, W.E. (Bill) Sommer, of the home; children Gary Sommer and his wife, Kristy; Donald Sommer and his wife, Robin; Patty Hanna and her husband, Rick, all of Sapulpa; grandchildren Amber Hanna, Justin Sommer, Alissa Sommer, Amy Sommer and Chelsea Sommer and sister-in-law Adge (Madge?) YVONNE "VONNA" SOMMER

Yvonne "Vonna" Sommer, 65, homemaker, of Sapulpa, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Mrs. Sommer was born Aug. 24, 1937 in Fort Smith, Ark. to Tom and Bonnie Rush. She graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith.

She married William "Bill" Sommer in Stigler and then lived in Fort Smith until moving to Oklahoma in 1976. She had lived in Sapulpa for 25 years.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mom and grandma who will be dearly missed. There was nothing more important to her than her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Bonnie Rush, and her brother Tommy Rush, of Lavaca, Ark.

She is survived by her husband, W.E. "Bill" Sommer, of the home; children, Gary Sommer and wife Kristy; Donald Sommer and wife Robin; Patty Hanna and husband Rick, all of Sapulpa; grandchildren Amber Hanna, Justin Sommer, Alissa Sommer, Amy Sommer and Chelsea Sommer; sister-in-law Adge Rush, of Lavaca, Ark., and brother-in-law Jimmy Sommer, of Little Rock, Ark.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial at Green Hill Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dan Caldwell officiating.

Pallbearers are Justin Sommer, Dennis Reavis, Ken Rentz, Bob Brady, Ivan Sharp, Johnny Kerr and Ralph Rogers.

The family will be receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at Green Hill Funeral Home on Sunday and will headquarter at the Sommer residence.

Southard and Daryl F. Southard. He served in the European Theater during WWII. He was the Building Manager/Engineer at Seismograph Service for over 30 years and was active in the Homebuilders class at First Chhristian Church. He died May 9, 2004 in an auto accident. NILA RAE SPEARS

Nila Rae Spears, 68, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 4, 2004. She was born July 10, 1935 to Isaac and Etter Fuller in Okfuskee County.

She attended schools in Mason, Oriental and Okemah. She met her future husband Lee at the Little Grand Ole Opry at the Okfuskee Community Center in 1951.

She relayed to her sister Ima "That is the man that I'm going to marry," which was referring to the houng and handsome Lester Lee Spears.

Nila and Lee enjoyed nearly 52 years of marriage and traveled in several states while raising their family. Nila and family settled down in Tulsa around early 1960 and then moved to Sapulpa in 1975. During her career Nila worked for Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Sapulpa, Dr. M. W. Johnson, Optometrist in Tulsa, and has been the office manager at Jenks Vision Center for Dr. Tom Vanderpool for 14 years.

Nila was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Nila was a warm, vibrant, caring and family oriented person. She was always spreading cheer and happiness, making new friends everywhere she went. Nila was such a caring and compassionate person that she made her clients feel like family. Her thoughtfulness of others will long be remembered. Nila has been one of the "back bones" of the Fuller Family Reunions for years and will be missed more than words could ever express.

She was preceded in death by her son Randy Spears; mother and father, Ike and Etter Fuller, sisters Betty Fuller and Neta Wassom; brothers Jeral D. Fuller, Junior Fuller and half brother Shorty Sutterfield.

Survivors are her husband Lester Lee Spears; Loretta Kelch, of Mannford; Rickey Spears, of Mannford; Rocky and Melinda Spears, of Sapulpa; sister Ima Ellison of Amarillo, Texas; brothers and their wives Eugene and Belva Fuller, of Okemah, Wendell and Lou Anna Fuller, of Cromwell, and Leon and Carol Fuller, of Seminole.

Nila leaves behind four grandchildren, Will Kelch, Teresa Kelch, Melissa Gilliland and Kristy Spears; six great-grandchildren Hunter and Reanna Spears, Nicholas, Nathan, Lindsey and Ashlyn Gilliland; many nephews, nieces, cherished relatives and friends too numerous to count.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Praise Center Ministries, located at 5672 Highway 117 in Sapulpa, with the Rev. Randy Lynn officiating. Interment will be at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Eunice Virginia Staiger

Eunice Virginia Staiger passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at The Gardens. Eunice was born in Owsley County, Levi, Ky. on Dec. 2, 1011 to Dora Ross and William Thomas Bowman.

Her father supported his family as a blacksmith in a shop at their home. She was the seventh of eight children, sister Maude and brothers Bev, Fred, Herbert, Hagos, Hubert and Bernie.

The family moved to Kellyville about 1917 where she met and married Frankie Staiger on June 8, 1929. They became the proud parents of three children including daughter Virginia Lee and husband Dempsey W. Shelton, of Kellyville, son Grant Staiger and wife Mary Marie, of Sapulpa, and daughter Dora Alberding, of Sapulpa.

Grandchildren are Dempsey Lee Shelton and wife Miriam, of Kellyville, Linda Behar and husband Arthur, Terri Legrand and husband Stephen, of Sapulpa, and Larry Alberding, of Tulsa.

Great-grandchildren include Tina Behar-Ford, Cindy Behar-Kerr, Kristie Behar-Hughes, Lindsey Shelton Baldwin, Todd Shelton, Kimberly Shelton and Ryan Legrand.

Great-great-grandchildren are Jessica, Heather and Jacob Ford, Matthew and Dillon Kerr, and Kaylee and Abby Hughes.

During World War II, the family moved to San Francisco for several years where Eunice worked as a welder in the shipyards. Before her husband of 59 years passed away in 1988, you would find them with their little dog at a fishing hole.

Funeral services for Eunice have been set for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 in the Green Hill Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Gary Staiger officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Seth Jr. 'Buck' Staley

Seth Jr. "Buck" Staley, 71, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in Tulsa.

Buck was born Oct. 24, 1932 in Vera to Jess and Alice Staley. Buck served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1955 in Alaska and during the Korean conflict and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Buck lived in Vera until he moved to Tulsa and surrounding areas and settled in Kiefer in 1968. Buck retired from Bob Thomas Oil Services in 1981.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Alice; two brothers, Ronnie E. Staley and Charles E. Staley, and one sister, Rosie.

Buck is survived by his wife, Lea, of the home; daughter Connie Staley; four sons, Jerry D. Staley and wife Cassie, Roger Capehart and wife, Billie, Joe Capehart and wife Brenda, and Tom Capehart and wife Leatha; seven grandchildren: Bryan, Steve, Chase, Sandan, Casey, Darylanne and Trey; four great-grandchildren; sisters Anna J. Staley and Patsy J. Walker, of Bristow; brother Bobby D. Staley and wife Camilla, of Glenpool; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.

The family of Mr. Staley will be having a lunch at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Green Hill Mausoleum Chapel for everyone who would like to attend.

Bart Joseph Stansbury

Bart Joseph Stansbury, 33, was born Jan. 1, 1970 in Sapulpa and was the New Year's Baby for that year. Bart attended Lone Star School where he was Outstanding Boy for his graduating eighth grade class and Sapulpa High School. He was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher at Linden Street Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

Bart was employed by the Bank of Oklahoma in Tulsa in the research department. He loved his family and church. Bart was blessed with the gift of music. He wrote many songs, music and was lead singer for several local rock bands. He loved to draw and was blessed with artistic capabilities. He wrote many poems along with his music and had a beautiful voice.

Bart enjoyed cooking on the grill for his family, working in the yard with his eye for landscaping. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children.

Bart was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doris and Harry Stansbury, and Joseph Eugene Williams.

He is survived by his children, Kelci Lynn, Mollie Nelson and Blake Joseph, all of Tulsa; his parents, Mary Jo and Larry Stansbury; brother Brad Stansbury and his wife Mary; sister Brandi Reed and her husband Mark; grandmother Bertha Williams; great-aunt Mary Ockerman; nieces and nephews Chance, Lauren, Max, Jacob, Maddy and Emmy; aunts and uncles Mendy and Kent Mayberry, Darrell and Rebecca Williams, Carl and Lisa Stansbury; and a host of many other friends and family.

Bart passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Linden Street Christian Church in his memory.

Funeral services for Bart have been set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darryl Blankenship officiating.

Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers will be Danny Youngblood, Spencer Mayberry, Justin Williams, Jay Clark, Leigh McClanahan and Danny McClanahan. Honorary bearers will be Brad Stansbury and Mark Reed.

She is survived by her mother and father, April and Scott Stanton; 2 siblings, Hailey and Brady, all of Tulsa; grandparents, Dennis and Sandy Stanton of Tulsa, Bill and Lynda Brown of Skiatook, and Fravel and Marylou McElroy of Arkansas; great-grandparents, Harold and Bernice Hayes, Ben and Delores Thatcher, and Don and Maryann Stanton, all of Tulsa. As well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Though she was with us only a short time, she will remain in our hearts and souls forever. Marlin was a veteran of the United States Army and received several honors while serving his country.

Former Sapulpan Jane Ann Stoiber passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 10, 2004 at the age of 74.

While living in Sapulpa, Mrs. Stoiber was the church pianist at First Baptist Church for 17 years and also worked as a teller at Security National Bank.

She is survived by her husband, Edmund, of Las Vegas; two sons: Randy Clark and his wife, Karen of Arlington, Texas, and Jack Clark, of Sapulpa; three brothers, Charles Reed and his wife Dorothy of Pasco, Wash., Foster Reed and his wife, Judy, of Plano, Texas and George Reed, of Florida.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date near her birthplace of Diamond, Missouri.

ORVIL STOUT

Orvil Stout, 84, of Kellyville, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kan.

He is survived by Zetta Stout, his wife of 63 years; five children, Jim Stout of Tulsa, Ira Stout and Pat Tuttle, both of rural Sapulpa, Mike Stout of Glencoe and Ruth Ann Scott of Newton, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Orvil was the last surviving member of a pioneer Oklahoma family. He was born Jan. 20, 1917 in Tulsa to Lewis Samuel and Eulah Lee Cothran Stout.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; four brothers; and grandson, Ricky Stout.

Orvil served in World War II with the U.S. Army's 66th Infantry Division in France. He was privileged to return to France in 1995 for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of France, where his unit was honored and memorialized by the people of that region.

Mr. Stout was a school teacher in Creek County from 1946 until his retirement from the Kellyville School District. Prior to his tenure at Kellyville, he taught for many years at the one-room country school at Blue Bell.

In 1977, Orvil received the Creek County Outstanding Teacher Award.

As a civic leader, Orvil served as Kellyville's mayor and on the town's Board of Trustees for several years. He was instrumental in the founding of the Kellyville Public Library and the Kellyville Veteran's Memorial. He was a member of the Blue Bell Free Will Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Blue Bell Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Green Hill Funeral Home of Sapulpa is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kan. and the Kellyville Library Fund.

"Dee Dee" and her husband generously opened their home to many troubled foster children for several years until they were blessed with daughters of their own. She was a gentle, loving daughter, sister, wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Leonard Earl Strain, 57, died of a heart attack Sunday afternoon at his home, 104 West Davis. He had been a resident of Sapulpa for 54 years.

Leonard Earl Strain, 57, 104 W. Davis, who died following a heart attack on Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Strain had been a Sapulpa resident for 54 years, had been a round house foreman for the Frisco railroad in the West Tulsa yards, a Frisco employee for 34 years.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Edna Strain, and a son, Bob strain, both of the home; the father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Strain, a brother, Roy Strain, all of Sapulpa, and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Roby, living in Tulsa.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Owen Funeral chapel, Rev. Alvin Hedin officiating. Interment was in South Heights cemetery.

LONG-TIME SAPULPAN'S RITES SET

Robert Presley Strain, a Sapulpa resident since 1910, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bartlett Memorial hospital. He had made his home with a niece, Mrs. Schley Sconiers, 1224 No. 9th.

Born March 14, 1880 in Washington County, Arkansas, Mr. Strain had been a worker in the oil fields in this area, and later was with the Frisco until his retirement 20 years ago because of failing health.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a past noble grand of the Sapulpa Odd Fellows Lodge.

Surviving are 3 brothers, Frank & W. A. (Walter Andrew) Strain, both of Sapulpa; and E. A. (Earl Albert) Strain of Modesto, California. Several nieces and nephews live here.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Smith Funeral Chapel with Reverend Archie Rivers officiating. Interment will be in South Heights Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leo Bruce, Ward Carpenter, Gordon Davis, Vern Huffman, Bob Watson and LeRoy Worley.

Paul J. Stroup, 88, of Sapulpa, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2004.

Paul was born in Sapulpa, Okla., on Dec. 1, 1915 to John and Stella Stroup.

He was raised in Sapulpa and graduated high school in 1934. Paul married Margarite Mondler in 1936. At this time she was working at a local bakery.

During their 41 years together, Paul and Margarite had three children, Jim, Carolyn and Rick.

Paul was inducted into the service in 1944 and served overseas in the Astatic Pacific Theater of war in Manila.

In 1946, Paul was discharged and decorated with the Philippine Liberation Medal, Satatic Pacific Medal, Good Conduct Medal. After the war, Paul went to work for the railroad, which he retired from at the age of 65. At this time, Paul and Margarite lived in California.

In 1977 Paul lost Margarite at which time he returned to Sapulpa, Okla. After his return, Paul donated his time to the church. He and brother Howard Stroup helped to establish and build the South Heights Baptist Church. They were instrumental in working and donating to churches. Both were deacons at three Baptist Churches.

He loved to travel so he became a member of Okie Campers. Paul married again in 1978 to Maxine Sinor, of Sapulpa, where they lived together for 22 years until Maxine's death in 2001.

Paul was preceded in death by his older brother, Woody, a younger brother, Howard, sister Ruth, wife of 41 years, Margarite Mondier, wife of 22 years, Maxine Sinor, and his granddaughter, Lori Stroup.

He was survived by his children, Jim Stroup, of Tulsa, Carol Sauerland, of Tulsa, and Rick Stroup, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; his five grandchildren: Jon Stroup of Tulsa, Paul Sauerland , of Sapulpa, Bill Sauerland, of Tulsa, Jena Wolcott, of Tulsa, and Jeff Stroup, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six great-grandchildren: Cinthia Sauerland, Jonathan Welch, Jack, Sara Kate and Ben Stroup, and Aynsley Wolcott.

Funeral services for Mr. Stroup have been set for 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2004 in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sammy Lowe officiating.

Interment will follow in the South Heights Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers will be John Morris, Junior Rippy, Glen Bolton, Ed Shadowens, Howard Wilson and Robert Parker.

I would like to thank my mother, Carol Sauerland, for all the time she has put into caring for my grandfather. Thanks, Mom.

Ralph Stroup of Sapulpa died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at St. John Sapulpa at the age of 87. Ralph was born May 16, 1914 in Sapulpa to David and Gertrude Minds Stroup.

Ralph and his wife Juanita Gray's 63 year marriage began on June 5, 1938 in Sapulpa. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1934 and was the agent for 39 years for State Farm Insurance in Sapulpa. He also worked as a real estate agent and worked for Tulsa/Sapulpa/Union and the Frisco railroads.

He was a member of the Glenwood Assembly of God Church, NARVE, Sapulpa Lions Club, where he served in many offices, and the Men's Concert of Prayer. He was a Sapulpa auxiliary officer, a member of the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce, the Holiday Rambler Traveling Club and the Early '30's Club.

Survivors are his wife Juanita of the home; children, Dr. Jerry Stroup and his wife, Wanda, of Grass Valley, Calif., David Stroup and his wife, Mary Lou, of Sapulpa and Joy Williams and her husband, Terry, of Sapulpa; grandchildren Elizabeth Tattershall, Deborah Winter, Staff Sg. First Class Mark Stroup, Timothy Stroup, Matthew Stroup, Miriam Knisley, Mike Stroup, Paul Stroup, Steve Williams, and Christian Williams; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alva Guinn; three sisters, Louise Guinn, Edith Phillips and Ethel Sitton; and a cousin, Paul Stroup.

Funeral Services for Ralph have been set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 in the Glenwood Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Rick McElhannon and Harold Powell officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Green Hill Mausoleum under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

Craig M. Strutton left this life Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at the age of 45.

Craig touched the lives of everyone he knew in a special way and will always live on in our hearts with his smile, his jokes and love for life, music and bikes. He always found the silver lining in every cloud. Once met, you never forgot him.

Delmer Dean Sullins

Delmer Dean Sullins, 84, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2004.

He was born Jan. 24, 1920 on a small farm near Lathan, Mo. He graduated from Latham High School in 1936 and from Finley Engineering College in Kansas City, Mo. in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

He served his country in World War II as a sergeant in the Army Air Force, where he served as a member of a crew of six on a B-25 bomber plane, attached to the 12th Air Force 310th Bombardment group. He flew on 16 combat missions throughout northern Italy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Jefferson and Martha Eleanor Sullins; four brothers, Elwood, Hobert, Glenwood and Ralph, and his late wife, Della Elizabeth Sullins.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Sullins, of the home; daughter Deborah Ann Coley, of Wimberley, Texas; son Dennis Dean Sullins, of Tulsa; daughter Donna Lynn West and her husband, Scott, of Glenpool; stepdaughter Denice and Dale Bonhanan, of Okarche; stepson David Thomas, of Tulsa; grandsons Stephen Ray Coley, of Wimberley, Texas, Carson Hayes West and Conner Dean West of Glenpool.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Glenpool. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemtery in Sapulpa. Visitation hours begin at noon today at Smith Funeral Home, with family visitation from 7 to 8 p.m.

Vivian Sumner, of Sapulpa, died Tuesday at the age of 80. Mrs. Sumner was born Oct. 7, 1922 in Weleetka to James and Myrtie Robertson Griffin.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and had lived in Sapulpa for the past 50 years. She was a retired secretary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sumner, on Feb. 13, 1998; her parents; one son, Mel Sumner; brothers, Troy and James Griffin and infant grandson, Andrew Paul Skonezny.

Survivors are her daughter, Mary Skonezny and son-in-law, Robert Skonezny, of Sapulpa; son, Dr. Mark Sumner of San Francisco; grandchildren, Katie and Ellen Skonezny.

He was born January 31, 1965 in Sapulpa to Ron Sutterfield and Catherine Lowe.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother and father Catherine and Jesse Lowe. Also by his grandparents Jasper and Viola Sutterfield and Harvey and Elba James.

His survived by his father and mother Ron and Joyce Sutterfield, his sisters Sheryl Spurlock and husband Mike, Debra Sutterfield, Terry Lowe and brothers Joe Sutterfield, Mark Sedlack and wife Kashannia, Jeff Lowe and wife Barbara.

He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews along with many aunts and uncles.

Randy was a youth worker with Hope of Glory Church in Sand Springs and had a very special place in his heart for children.

God blessed Randy with passions and talents from many puppet voices to an awesome singing voice.

He was also a dedicated employee at T.D. Williams in Tulsa for 16 years.

He was a senior draftsman and spoke highly of his fellow employees.

He will be greatly missed.

Services for Randy will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel.

Jesse Eugene "Gene" Swaze

Jesse Eugene "Gene" Swaze, of Sapulpa, died Oct. 22, 2004 in the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital at the age of 81. Jesse was born Sept. 10, 1923 to Jesse Elmer Swaze and Maud Nevada (Conner) Swaze. Both parents preceded in him death and one brother James Marion Swaze died in the 1980s.

Gene lived in Tulsa until he joined the U.S. Navy in August of 1943 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and was honorably discharged in April of 1946. He held the rating of Quartermaster third class and received the World War II Victory medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal.

Gene was a 1941 graduate of Tulsa Central High School and received his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University in 1949. He also received another bachelor's degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1954 while employed by the C.I.A. as an intelligence officer. He remained with the C.I.A., State Department and Diplomatic Service until 1962. He worked security operations for both the State Department and companies working for the State Department throughout S.E. Asia and Korea.

Gene also worked for Cooper-McDonald Weapons Company as a sales representative in Vietnam, Thiland, Malaya, and Indonesia (with ties to the C.I.A.) and Hong Kong and Taipei.

Gene returned to the Tulsa and Sapulpa area in 1963 and had worked as an investigator for several attorneys. Gene had hopes of one day becoming a writer, he surely had enough information to write a book, but his eyesight was failing. Gene never looked on his life as a hardship. He once said "You take the hand you're dealt, and deal with it."

He was a great person to have known. We will miss his warm smile and kind words. He will be dearly missed by his many friends in the community and by the organizations of which he was a part of including Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Blind Veterans of the D.A.V., International Association of Chiefs of Police in Washington, D.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the above veterans organizations.

He was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha at O.S.U.

Funeral services for Gene have been set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers will be Paul L. Dearman, Larry Prescott, Bill Laughter, Richard Armstrong, Phillip Holliday, and John Cooper.

Honorary bearers will be Robbie Robinson, John Morris and Ed Shadowens.

The Sapulpa R.O.T.C. will give military honors at the graveside.

Willa Mae Sweeden, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005 at the age of 86.

Willa Mae was born July 19, 1919 to Richard and Mattie Ruth, of Yale, and graduated from Berryhill High School in 1939.

She married Paul Sweeden on July 29, 1939 in Berryhill. She was a member of Allen Free Will Baptist Church and was a beloved wife and mother. She worked as a homemaker, cake decorator and bookkeeper for Sunbeam Motors.

Survivors are children Carol Sweeden, of Clearlake, Calif., Chloe and Don Victorino, of Big Harbor, Wash., Pauline and Ken Smith, of Sapulpa, Wanda and Richard Fiedler, of Tulsa, and Steven and Tammy Sweeden, of Sapulpa; 10 grandchildren Chris and Jeff Smith, both of Sapulpa, Loretta Jackson-Agada, of Tulsa, Jody Sackett, of Washington, Donald Victorino, of California, Julia and Amy Fiedler, both of Norman, Walter Smith, of Sapulpa, Tiffany and Paul "P.J." Sweeden, both of Sapulpa; six great-grandchildren Sarah Smith, of Sapulpa, Alyssa Sackett, of Washington, Keith Smith, of Sapulpa, and Jennifer, Jessica and Kevin Kulseth; two great-great-grandchildren Timothy Cook and Devon Kulseth; and two sisters Mary Gatts and Rosie Smay, both of Sapulpa.

Willa mae was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Harold, Andy and Eugene Ruth; sister Dovie West; grandson Paul Sweeden; daughter Alice Marie Sweeden and husband Paul.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 at Allen Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Bilby officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casket bearers will be Chris Smith, Jeff Smith, Loretta Agada, Walter Smith, Steven Sweeden and Michael Pratt. Honorary bearers are Julia Fiedler, Amy Fiedler and Tiffany Sweeden.
