John Cary was born circa 1610 near Bristol, Somersetshire, England.¹
He immigrated in 1639 to Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.^2,3
John Cary married Elizabeth Godfrey, daughter of Francis Godfrey and Elizabeth (?), in June 1644.⁴
He was one of the first to emigrate from Duxbury to Bridgewater ; his house was a quarter of a mile east of the meeting-house in West Bridgewater. He was the first town clerk of the town of Bridgewater.²
John Cary died on 2 November 1681 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.^1,6
He and Jonathan Cary were memorialized on a cenotaph in Ashland Cemetery, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, along with Dea. Recompense Cary, Dea. Jonathan Cary and Jonathan Cary Jr.⁷
