The IGI
stands for the International Genealogical Index. Created by the Church
of Latter Day Saints, they sought to record as many vital records from around
the planet as possible on microfiche to make researching ones ancestors
easier. For many of us, it was a starting point for this never-ending,
addictive hobby. Since then the LDS has transcribed many of these
records and they are now available at the
LDS website. When you visit www.familysearch.org
be sure to sure all records for your ancestors, not just the IGI. Also,
while you are there, check out the online library catalogue. There are
thousands of microfilm reels available for locations worldwide that can be
ordered at your local FHC.

link for additional information such as parents &/or spouses. Also,
I abbreviated the IGI index these records can be found under: CE for
Central Europe, GE for Germany, NA for North America, and AF for Africa.
