Henry de Newburgh (so called from the castle of that name in Normandy) was the
first to bear the title of Earl of Warwick after the Norman conquest. He was
bo rn in 1046, a younger son of Roger de Bellomont, Earl of Mellent. When this
per son obtained the earldom is not exactly ascertained, but Sir William Dugdale
pr esumes the period to be towards the close of William's reign, "for then,"
he sa ys, "King William having begirt Warwick with a mighty ditch, for the
precinct o f its walls, and erected the gates at his own charge, did promote
this henry to the earldom and annexed thereto the royalty of the borough, which
at that timeb elonged to the crown." But, though Henry de Newburgh was made
Earl of Warwickby the first Norman sovereigh, he was not invested with all the
lands attachedto the earldom until the ensuing reigh, as we find William Rufus,
soon after his a ccession to the throne, conferring upon him the whole inheritance
of Turchil de Warwick, a Saxon, who at the coming of Duke William, had the reputation
ofEarl . The name of this Henry appears as a witness to the charter of King HenryI,
wh ereby that prince confirmed the laws of Edward the Confessor, and grantedmany
o ther immunities to the clergy and laity. He married Margaret of Morton (Perche)

On the Percies: The founder of th e family was a Danish chieftain, Manfred, who
died in 880. His son, Galfred, wa s a general of Rollo's in Normandy. The next
of importance would be William, wh o came with the Conqueror , and who was the
first Lord Percy. He died in 1097. The descendants of his son, Alan, founded
the Percies of Heyshott and William's son, Richard, founded the Percies of Dunsley.
Of the Children of William II, o nly daughters survived and of these only one
had children. She married Josceli ne de Lovain, brother of Adeliza, second wife
of Henry II. Josceline changed h is name to Henry de Percy and the line continued.

but if you go back several paternal generations this Eleanor de Warren is descended
