Emily Lincoln, also known as Emma, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Lincoln and Martha Jane Burress, was born about 1857 in Hancock County, Illinois. She died May 23, 1942, in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, according to State of Illinois death records, and was buried at Webster Cemetery. When Warren Van Dine surveyed Webster Cemetery in 1965, there was no tombstone, only a mortician's marker to indicate Emily's grave. According to Van Dine's notes, the marker indicated that Emma Nelson died June -- 1942, aged 84 yrs. ------- 25 ds.
She was named as Emily in the 1860 Federal Census; 1870 - Emma; marriage license - Emily; 1880 - Emaline; 1900 through 1930 - Emma; her husband's obituary - Emily. Benjamin F. Nelson, son of William and Charlotte Nelson, was born December 25, 1853, in Hire Township, McDonough County, Illinois. He died January 23, 1935, and was buried at Webster Cemetery. There was also a mortician's marker in place for Benjamin according to Van Dine, reading "Ben T. Nelson, died Jan. 23, 1935, aged 81 Ys. 38 Ds. Obituary On December 17, 1875, Benjamin F. Nelson put his mark on a marriage affidavit requesting a marriage license for himself and Miss Emily Lincoln. Accompanying the affidavit was a note signed by T. J. Lincoln, expressing his approval for Emily to be "weaded" to Benjamin. They were married at Carthage on December 18, 1875, by John B. Risse, County Court Judge.
