DEATH OF ALPHAS MEYERS

Alphas Myers died at his country home, some six miles northeast of Carthage, the 28th of December 1934, aged seventy-four years, six months and nineteen days.

Mr. Myers has long been blessed with a good degree of health and strength, which in these later years showed signs of waning, the decline being more marked as time advanced.

A few days ago he became suddenly and alarmingly worse.  A hemorrhage of the brain followed, from which in spite of skill and care he failed to rally.  Mercifully unconscious of pain and suffering, he quietly and peacefully passed to his reward.

He was the son of Levi F. and Eliza Myers, and was born in Warren county, Illinois, the 17th of August 1860.  The remaining members of this family are four brothers, William D. Myers, John G. Myers, Benjamin* and Perry, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Fleming of Keokuk, Iowa.

Alphas Myers came to this county in young manhood, and has long held residence in this community.

On the 22nd of November 1904, he was united in marriage to Grace Marshall, member of a nearby and worthy family.  Sharing her sorrow today are the five children, one daughter, Mrs. Viola Boston of Adrian; Levi J. Myers; Lawrence W.; Dale V.; and Alman L.  There are also four grandchildren.

Mr. Myers has long followed farming.  His years have been spent in busy labor, which knew no lessening until failing health and declining strength made necessary the laying aside of many active duties.  Very patiently and submissively he bore the changing conditions, well aware of what the future seemed to promise, and that his earthly journey was nearing the close.  Mr. Myers was one who held the confidence and esteem of his fellowmen.

He will be remembered as a helpful and obliging friend and neighbor with ready aid in time of need. But his chief interests centered under his own residence, where the memory of a kind and devoted husband and father brings comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Funeral was held Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Elms.  Rev. Fred S. Nichols officiating. Burial at Yetter cemetery.
