Hugh Meaney (1892-1918)

Hugh Meaney and Martha Rogan’s 4^th son was Hugh Meaney. He was born 16^th November 1892 at Dree Dromara. His mother registered the birth on 3^rd February 1893[1].

The 1901 Irish Census[2] has Hugh aged seven living in the townland of Dree with his widower father and his twelve year old brother James following the death of his mother Martha.

At the age of 23 Hugh Meaney married Elizabeth Mulholland at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Teconnaught on 20/01/1916[3]. Hugh stated he was a servant and gave his place of residence as Board Mills Dreenan. Elizabeth was a mill worker living at Magheralone. The witnesses were Henry Mullholland and Mary Jane Mooney (which could possibly be Mary Jane Meaney, Hugh’s sister).

Hugh died of ‘Influenza and Pnumonia’ on 10/12/1918 aged 25 in Drennan[4] leaving Elizabeth with two sons: William Meaney (abt 15 months old) and Hugh Meaney (abt 3 months old).
