Nicholas Knecht, son of Johann Nicholas Knecht and Anna Maria Schickedanz
- born 21 Apr 1845 in St. Clair County, Illinois
- died 28 Jan 1921 in Lebanon, Boone, Indiana, at the county poor farm.
Augusta and Nicholas went to Indiana, leaving their children in Illinois with relatives. In the 1910 census, they were living in Center Township, Boone County, Indiana, just northwest of Indianapolis. In the 1920 census, they were residents of the poor farm in Boone County, and that is where Nicholas died in 1921. Augusta died 6 years later. They are both buried in the Boone County cemetery.

Former Resident Dies in Lebanon, Indiana

Mrs. Augusta Knecht, aged 74 years, 4 months and 12 days, died at Lebanon, Indiana on Friday morning, August 5th. Cerebral Hemorrhage was the cause of her death. She had been ill for three days. Mrs. Knecht was born near Berlin, Germany and came to America with her mother in 1870 (sic). She was twice married and is survived by four children, William and Fred Wefer of rural Vandalia, and Henry and Anna Knecht of rural Shobonier, and one brother, Ernest Oertwig of rural St. Paul, Illinois. Burial was made in Boone County Cemetery, and those attending the funeral from this area were; Henry Knecht and daughter Ella and Fred Wefer.
