George Kiscaden

Before the war

He was born on 11 January 1829, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, probably to George and Rachel Kiscadden. [sources: date: 12, 14; 5 (25 in 1863), 8 (22 in 1850), 9 (30 in 1860), 10 (45 in 1880), 15 (32 in 1870). place: 5, 8, 9, 10, 15. parents: 8]

In 1850, he was living in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was living with George and Rachel Kiscadden (presumably his parents), and with others (presumably siblings). He was a laborer. [source: 8]

He married Martha Bear. She had six chidren, five of whom were alive in 1900. Probably at least one of those children (David Barr) was not Kiscadden's. [sources: 9, 11, 14]

In 1860, he was living in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Martha (presumably his wife) and James (presumably their son). He was a farm laborer, and owned $75 in personal property. [source: 9]

When he enlisted, he was a laborer. [source: 5]

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a florid complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. [source: 5]

During the war

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 13 July 1863. He enlisted for three years, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His enlistment was credited to the 9th congressional district. [sources: 1, 5, 6 (8 July)]

He was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was a private in company B of the 91st. [sources: 1, 16, 17]

He may have been charged for lost equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out. [source: 4]

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company. He was a private, in company B. [sources: 1, 6, 16, 17]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Martha (presumably his wife), James and William (presumably their sons), and two others. He was a laborer. [source: 15]

On 10 [?] February 1875 [?], he successfully applied for a pension. [sources: 2, 7]

In 1880, he was living in ward 3, Columbia, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Martha, and her son David Barr. He was a laborer. He was wounded in the arm. [source: 10]

In 1890, he was living in the third ward, Columbia, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He had been wounded and ruptured. [source: 6]

On 1 October 1894 [??], his widow, Martha Kiscaden, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 2, 7]

On 11 January 1899, he died, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Mount Hope Methodist Cemetery, Mechanic Grove, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 12, 14]

In 1900, his widow, Martha Kiscadden, was living at 440 North Water Street, ward 9, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her son David Barr and his family. [source: 11]

On 19 April 1914, his widow, Martha M Kiscaden, died. She was buried in the Mount Hope Methodist cemetery, Mechanic Grove, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [source: 13]
