Jan, 1846, Magaera, 10, iron steam frigate, screw, Messrs. Fairburn, half built, at Millwall.

20 Dec 1848 Millwall, building.

As a result of experiments carried out on the "Ruby" to see how an Iron vessel would withstand gunfire, the Simoom and Megaera being reduced to transports.

14 May 1851 Is to be commissioned immediately at Sheerness, to carry troops to the Cape of Good Hope, and notices will be put up at the dockyard gate at Woolwich for stokers to serve in that vessel.

1855 Troopship.

Feb 1855 employed running between Sinope and Kamiesch Bay with cattle for the supply of the fleet.

14 Mar 1860 Portsmouth. Commissioned for Particular Service as a Troopship

1 Jan to 3 Mar 1864 Troop Ship. Irregular or particular service. Medical report : number of Cases of Disease and Injury.

3 Mar 1864 Paid off.

1870 Particular Service, Storeship

24 Feb 1871 arrived at Plymouth Sound, from Sheerness, en route for Sydney.

25 Feb 1871 departed Plymouth Sound with the ship's companies for the Blanche and Rosario, on the Australia Station.
