b. 1841, Carter Co., TN, d. 1/20/1871
Colonel-CSA, Deputy Sheriff of Dallas Co., TX. Shot & killed in the line of duty

(No Stone-Charles H. Nichols was born in Carter Co., TN, went to MO where he entered the Confederate Army as Capt of Co. C., 5th Regiment, MO State Guards, in 1861, & in 1863, was a Col. in Gen Jackman's MO troops. He came to Dallas in early 1866 & was married to Mrs. Sarah Gale Bowser on 12/5/1866. He was a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Jerry M. Brown. On 1/16/1871, he was sent to Scyene to arrest John Younger, a member of the Belle Starr gang. He was shot in the back by John Younger, dying on 1/20/1871. New marker now in place as of June 2006)
