General:
According to "History of Norton County" by Frank Lockard published in the 1890's Dudley Morris left Norton Co., KS in 1890 and went to Talmage, Otoe Co., NE where he still lived as of the publishing of the book. According to Verda Park Morris and Nora Morris Woodin he died in Jackson Co., KS in 1887.

Excerpt from "History of the Early Settlement of Norton County Kansas" by Hon. F. M. Lockard 1894 Page 269-270

"Among the early settlers of Emmett that have not been previously mentioned are Dudley Morris who came here from eastern Kansas in the spring of 1873 and moved his family here in 1875, and settled in Emmett township. He left here in 1890 and lives at Talmage, Nebraska, at this time. His eldest daughter, Mollie, who is well remembered here, married Emery Worley some years ago and lives at Washington, Kansas. Another daughter, Belle, married P. H. Crohan before they came here. Crohan came here in 1877. Mrs. Crohan became insane in 1887 and was sent to the insane asylum at Topeka where she has remained ever since. Patsy Crohan has remained here with two of his children ever since. The youngest child is with its aunt at Washington, Kansas. Mr. Crohan has been a prominent figure in politics since coming here. He has been township trustee of Emmett township several times and has frequently been mentioned for a county office. He has also served several terms as justice of the peace of his township. He has always been a republican and has been a member of the county central committee for several years. He was post master at Calvert from 1889 to 1893.

Dudley's oldest son, Bert, is also well known here. He left here in 1897. A daughter, Ella, married R. L. McCook. Linn Cook, as he was familiarly called, was a prominent figure in the early days coming to this county in 1875 and remained here until 1880. and finally succeeded in leaving the county without a friend. He betrayed the confidence of all his friends and left here with full consent of all. He went to the Black Hills and finally died. His wife has since married a man by the name of Knacke. They live at Talmage, Nebraska. Another daughter, Dora, married Eugene D. Mills. They have been previously mentioned. They live at Talmage, Nebraska. Eugene is in the windmill business and occasionally visits Norton in connection with his business. Ambrose Morris also John are living at Talmage and are farming for a living."

There is no record of his burial in either Jackson Co., KS or Cherokee Co., KS

J. D. Morris is listed as the correspondant on the admission papers for his daughter Belle Crohan to the Kansas State Hospital dated 31 March 1887. It states that he was living in Almena, Norton Co., KS.

According to Thelma Morris Hewitt, James Dudley Morris was traveling when he died and was buried where he died.

The IGI Individual Record lists a Reubin Morris with a wife named Mary. they have a son Dudley Morris born in 1830 in Scott Co., KY. Dudley Morris is listed with a wife, Margaret and children Mary J. Morris born 1850 in Scott Co., KY, Louise J. Graveside Rites Tomorrow For Wilbert J. Morris, 81

Graveside services for Wilbert J. Morris, 81, or [sic] rural Seeley, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery by Rev. George Wheeler of the First Presbyterian Church. Lemons-Wiley Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Morris, a retired tractor driver and farm laborer for Gilbert Cobleigh, died March 13 in a local hospital. He had been a resident of Imperial County 32 years. He was born Feb. 11, 1885 in Almena, Kan.

Surviving him are three sisters, including Mrs. Nora A. Woodin of Santa Barbara, and two sisters and a brother in northern California.. 71

Jessie Irene Morris was born 30 Jan 1912 in Cunningham, Kingman Co., KS. On 5 Dec 1933 in Olathe, Johnson Co., KS she married James Mark Shultz. Jessie and Jimmie met when they both worked at the Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO. They have two children, a boy and a girl. Sometime after they were married they moved to a farm outside Versailles, MO. Jessie was a homemaker and Jimmie built homes. After the children were raised, Jimmie built a home for them in Versailles and Jessie worked in a doctor's office. Jessie still lives in the home they built. She is very religious and she loves ceramics. She has made several complete sets of dishes.

Jessie I. Shultz

Jessie I. Shultz, 90, Versailles, died Saturday morning, July 20, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Cunningham, Kan., the daughter of Francis and Versa [sic] Park Morris.

On Dec. 5, 1933, she married James M. Shultz, who preceded her in death on July 20, 1991.

Mrs. Shultz was a nurse for Dr. Loren Washburn in Versailles for 20 years. She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, James Morris Shultz, Springfield; one daughter, Barbara Jean Porter, Mason, Ohio; two brothers, Everett Morris, North Pole , Alaska, and Jack Morris, Willits, Calif., five sisters, Elva Dumas, Citrus Heights, Calif., Viola Hannick [sic], Scottsdale, Ariz., Lorene Coombe, Eureka, Calif., Nora Tucker, Willits, Calif., and Bonnie Benback, Redwood Valley, Calif., five grandchildren; five great -grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Louis and Frankie Morris, and two sisters, Rhoda Chapman and Corene {sic} Morris.

Funeral services were Monday, July 22 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeanie Leeper officiating. Vocal selections of Whispering Hope", "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were played. Interment was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casketbearers were Charles Ball, Marvin Ball, Buster Morrison, Dan Schultz, Wayne Wood and Morgan Cline. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles. 88 82 100
