General:
Verda Cecil Park was born 29 Jul 1893 in Cunningham, Kingman Co., KS. On 11 Aug 1911 in Pratt, Pratt Co., KS she married Francis Avery Morris. She died 8 May 1965 in Ukiah, Mendocino Co., CA. She must have had a strong constitution. She had 13 children and never had any pre-natal care. Most were born with only a mid-wife. She had a twin sister and they looked so much alike that they had to wear different colored ribbons in their hair at school so the teacher could tell them apart. At recess they'd trade ribbons! Her main goal in life was to please Frank.

Marriage Notes (Francis Avery Morris)
Married by Lee A. Fischer
The Trip from Arkansas to California.

Frank went to California first. This was sometime before May of 1939. His sister Minnie and her husband Clarence Wise were going out and he went with them. Louie was working on the Romer Dairy south of Ukiah and Frank got a job there too. He saved money to go back and get his family. He drove Louie's 1932 Chevrolet sedan back from California. He failed his drivers' test before leaving so he drove to Arkansas without one. When he got to Arkansas he paid $ .25 at the drug store for a license. There were nine people on the trip back to California. Frank built a bench to put in front of the back seat and Everett and Elva sat back to back on it. Frank, Verda, Bonnie and Jack rode in the front. Viola, Lorene and Nora sat in the back seats. There was a birdcage hanging from the ceiling. Verda wouldn't go off and leave her canary behind. There were mattresses on top of the car and they were pulling a trailer with all of their belongings. It must have been a pretty sight! They had pretty good luck all things considered. There was one flat tire and just before they reached Barstow, CA they went around a sharp corner and broke a tie rod. Everyone had to get out of the car and sit at the side of the road while Frank took the car back to Barstow to be repaired. In those days motels had small kitchens, so when they stopped at the end of a long day they had to make their dinner. Elva remembers being too small to cook, so her job was to watch over Jack and Bonnie. Bonnie was 3 years old and Jack one. Everett and Elva had their 11th birthday shortly after arriving in California. When they reached the inspection station at the California border they had to unload the entire trailer. What a job that was. They finally arrived in Healdsburg and stayed over night with Frank's sister Mary and her husband Clifford Fincher. Mary and Cliff had seven children of their own so they had to sleep on the floor. They shortly arrived in Ukiah and stayed with Louie in a two-room cabin until Frank found a place for them in Redwood Valley. They spent the rest of their lives there. 50
