POPULAR GOALKEPER REACHES HIS MAJORITY
PRESENTATION TO DOUGLAS RIDGWAY.
Mr. Douglas RIDGWAY, the popular goalkeeper of the Taunton Amateurs' Football Club, who is a corporal in the Royal Air Force, has been home on leave this week, and his visit happily coincided with his 21st birthday celebrations on Monday.
His father, Mr. George RIDGWAY, is the licensee of the Swan Hotel, East-street, and in the evening many of “Doug's” friends, particularly those associated with him in skittling and football circles, marked his coming of age by making a presentation to him during a social gathering there. Mr. C. P. EWENS spoke of the popularity “Doug” had won by his sporting qualities, and, on behalf of the subscribers, handed him a gold signet ring. To his mother, a silver R.A.F. badge was presented, by Mrs A. WALKER on behalf of a number of friends. Both the recipients expressed their thanks Mr. C. CHURCHILL was M.C., and a pleasant evening was spent.
The company were entertained to refreshments by Mr. and Mrs. G. RIDGWAY.
