NORTH PETHERTON
THE SUM of £9 was realised at a jumble sale at the Memorial Hall in aid of the funds of the Congregational Church.
NO LIGHTS. - Mrs. Louisa Annie BISHOP, 'bus conductress, of Mill-street, was fined 15s at Bridgwater County Sessions on Friday for cycling without lights. - P.C. MORRELL proved the case.
A COLLISON
On Saturday evening, a collision occurred on the main road at Beggars Brook between a goods vehicle owned by Messrs. Thomas & Evans, Ltd., Bathpool, driven by Edgar Thomas REES, 18, Richmond-road, Taunton, and a car, driven by Sydney John EDNEY, farmer, of Sutton House, Wembdon-road, Bridgwater. Both vehicles were damaged, but there were no personal injuries.
SUGAR BLOCKS ROADWAY
There were no personal injuries when a trailer van containing about seven tons of sugar capsized at Beggar's Brook on Tuesday afternoon. The van was wrecked and a quantity of the contents strewn about the roadway. Despite the strenuous efforts of helpers it was five hours before the debris was cleared from the road
AGRICULTURIST'S DEATH
The death occurred on Wednesday at his home, Dyer's Green, of Mr. David HARDEN aged 85. A native of the village, in which he had lived all his life, he carried on business as an agriculturist and machinist at Stafflands Farm until twenty years ago. Upon his retirement he took up residence at Dyer's Green. Mr. HARDEN was held in high esteem and was well known among agriculturists over a wide area. He leaves three daughters and two sons. His wife pre-deceased him 2½ years ago.
LOCAL BRIDEGROOM
The wedding was solemnised on Sunday, by the Rev Quentin MORRIS, of Aircraftman William Henry PORTER, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur PORTER, of Fore-street, North Petherton, and Miss Gwendoline Mary JONES, of Cotterell-street, Hereford, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert JONES. The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. Cecil JONES, was dressed in blue, and carried a bouquet of carnations and pinks. She was attended by her friend, Miss Alwyn EDWARDS, attired in a dress of crushed strawberry shade and carrying a bouquet of pink and white carnations. The “best man” was Mr Jack MUNN, cousin of the bride. After the ceremony the happy couple left for Somerset, where the honeymoon is being spent. Both the bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many useful presents.
