McLeod’s of Broad Run Genealogy Bibliography

Bibliography and Commentary

There are an amazing number of books in and out of print that might possibly have references to long dead relations. Putting this stuff on the Web for everyone to share is as easy as keeping a computer file on my hard disk. Check my links for Book Sources and libraries to find copies of these books. Many books first printed in the 19th century are currently in print. This list is heavy on Atlantic Provinces of Canada Maritime interest as I am researching a list of Master Mariners. Those entries with a call number are located in the library noted. If there is no location information, I don’t know where to find the book.

Abreviations:
LC - The Library of Congress Call Number
MM - The Mariners’ Museum Newport News Virginia Call Number
PARL - Pictou-Antigonish Regional Libary Call Number

I own this marks books that I own. Blue links on publisher connect to book vendor and blue links on title connect to my review of book. Multiple listings of books are for differing publishers.

It has long been felt that an effort should be made to write a History of Inverness County. Many wished to have it done, but none seemed prepared to undertake the work. The almost total absence of public or private records germane to such a project made the undertaking peculiarly difficult. At length the Municipal Council officially lent its countenance to the enterprise, and a Board of Editors was designated of which we happened to be an humble member. Immediately thereafter we plunged into the actual work.

Drummer on Foot, is a series of 90 articles that appeared in THE CASKET, from 1912 to 1918. Drummer on Foot is an invaluable supplement to the History of Inverness County and the two versions of the History of Antigonish County. In many cases, DOF gives the Scottish origins of the pioneers, some back several generations. It also describes several individuals and families that left Antigonish for Inverness County and some onto the Western shores of Newfoundland - Bay St. George and the Codroy Valley.
