Some surnames connected to my THOMPSON branch: PEARCE My grandfather Edward THOMPSON professes not to know or remember very much about his family but I'd definitely argue the point. Although there are still a lot of blanks, I've pieced together quite a bit based upon his recollections. Thanks, Grandpa! There is a lot of my THOMPSON information that was taken from the Cleveland Public Library's online obituary files. While the files are riddled with typos, it is still a very useful tool for anyone searching Cuyahoga County. Text is fully searchable but you have to sometimes get creative. Files are through 1975 and mostly full text obituaries. Samuel Thomson was born about 16-Jun-1862 in England, possibly Manchester. His parent's names are unknown. He immigrated to the United States about 1881. Samuel THOMPSON married Emma Jane PEARCE probably 03-Jul-1888 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Emma was the daughter of William PEARCE and Louise or Louisa PECK/PACK. She was born Jun-1870 in England. They had seven children: Arthur Henry born 22-Feb-1888 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; Albert (my great-grandfather) probably born Oct-1889 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; Samuel born Dec-1891 in Pennsylvania; Andrew Thomas born 08-Jul-1895 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; William G. born 14-Jan-1903 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; Evelyn born 01-Nov-1904 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio; and Ruth birth date unknown but is reportedly the youngest. Emma Jane PEARCE THOMPSON died 14-Jul-1934 in Conneautville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. She was buried 18-Jul-1934 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Samuel THOMPSON died 31-Oct-1952 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He was buried 04-Nov-1952 in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery, Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Information recently discovered in the above mentioned obituary files have given me names of siblings for Emma PEARCE THOMPSON: Esther married William BEDFORD (she may have also been married to someone named PEARCE - the obituary file gives her son's name as James PEARCE); Louisa May married Alfred HERBERT; James; Edward and William. Louisa PECK/PACK PEARCE died 27-Oct-1929 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. |
