Newspaper clippings in the Corey Family Bible:
IN MEMORIAM
Mrs. Julia Corey Miner.
A life that has touched and blessed many is always worthy of record. We love to follow it to its sources and learn the secret of its growth. Such a life was that of Julia Corey Miner whose death followed so quickly the happy Christmas gathering. The shock and sense of loss came irst, and then we love to turn and see what treasures her life has left us. The surroundings of her youth were singularly fortunate. Born into a home whose atmosphere was that of refined simplicity and sincere Chris- tianity, she passed her childhood in the quiet little village of Hamlet.
Here her wise father gave his chil- dren for a playground a lovely wooded pasture beside a stream, where she grew up in closest sympathy with nature. During her school life at the Fredonia Normal she is remembered as a girl of warm heart and joyous temperament, showing early the mark- ed executive ability that distinguished her as a teacher. Before completing her studies she spent some years in teaching, near her home, later in the south and west, and at Forestville. She became known as a successful teacher. The secrets of her success were found in her eager enthusiasm for her work, her broad conception of its possibilities, and her sympathy with individuals. Her un- tiring energy and eagerness for im- provement led her to undertake a sum- mer of foreign travel, and later to complete the professional course at Fredonia. Her life in Fredonia after her marriage to Mr. George Miner, saw the ripest and richest period of her de- velopment. Those who knew her in her home saw how completely and gracefully she fulfilled its duties, but these did not confine her powers. She was a modern woman of the best type. The home was never neglected for in- tellectual improvement or public phil- anthropy but her abundant energy and love of humanity overflowed easily into the channels of village and church activities. In various literary organizations, and as a member of the Board of Managers of the Darwin R. Barker Library she was known as an energetic worker, and an ardent seeker of the public good. As a member of the Methodist church, her zeal and ability made her a leader. Here she was always happiest in her work with the young people, the sympathy with young life which had distinguished her work as a teacher, never losing its freshness. Her work in the missionary societies of the church led her to a wider field of labor as Conference secretary of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society. The crowning grace of life was hers, a deeply religious nature which grew in the most simple and natural way. Her religion was never "a thing apart", but entered into all of her life. The Christ-like spirit which has been called "the enthusiasm of humanity" was characteristic of her in large de- gree and was sustained by a child-like faith that never failed her. The home and friends miss her tender ministries, the village and com- munity are deprived of her faithful labors, but in the one relation which is eternal her life endures. To those who share her faith she is not lost. Such lives leave with us more than a promise of things for which we dimly hope.

Death of Mrs. Julia C. Miner
The sad news of the sudden demise of Mrs. Julia Corey Miner, wife of George C. Miner, and one of Fredonia's most highly respected women, spread a shadow of gloom over our village last Friday morning. She died at her home on Center street, Thursday evening at 11 o'clock after a short illness lasting only three days. Mrs. Miner was beloved by all who knew her; she was born in Hamlet, 46 years ago. She has been very prominent in church work in Fre- donia and was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Darwin R. Barker Library besides numerous church societies. A devout Christian, she won the lifelong friendship of all who knew her and her death is a great loss to the loved ones, the M. E. church and her many friends whe were best acquainted with her. She is survived by her father and mother, Dr. and Mrs. M. S. Corey, two brothers, Ernest M. Corey and Sherman E. Corey of Oregon; one sister, Mrs F. L. Sackett; besides her husband, two children, Louise and Elizabeth and two step-children, Mabel and Arthur. The funeral which was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock was the most largely attended that has been held in Fredonia for sometime. The house was filled with her many friends who assembled there to pay their last respects to the noble life of the deceased.
Around the casket were numerous floral tributes from her many friends and the societies of which she was a member, as tokens of their sincere love for the deceased and sympathy for the bereaved ones. Rev. Bruce Wright led in prayer, Mrs. J. S. Lambert sang and Rev. E. P. Cleaveland read a passage from the scriptures following which Rev. Wright gave an eloquent tribute to the worth of the life just passed. Rev. J. B. Espy preached the funeral ser- mon ending with a fine tribute to her devotion to Christianity. The interment followed in Forest Hill cemetery.

Resolution Adopted by the Managers of D. R. Barker Library.
---
By the death of Mrs. George Miner the Managers of D. R. Barker Library have lost a faithful and efficient officer. She had been the Secretary and Treas- urer of the Board for years having the confidence and love of her associates. We cannot tell what high mission waits for her in the brighter world above, but here it may well be said of her: She was firm to do the right as God gave her to see the right. With sad hearts the Managers ex- tend their sympathy to the stricken family and the large circle of mourn- ing friends.
