“At a District Meeting on August 18, 1794, it was voted ”that the minute-men have Seven Dollars per month in case they Shall be called into actual Service, while in Service Including the Continental pay, and also give them three Dollars Bounty … if called upon to march; and further Voted that the minute-men who Shall turn out Voluntaryly and enlist Shall have the Same pay which the town of Concord have agreed to give their minute-men.

An order was drawn on the District Treasurer August 29, 1794 for thirteen pounds, ten shillings, the total amount of the bounty at eighteen shillings each, which the District voted to give in consideration of their services as minute-men to the following men: … James Russell, Junr, … Simon Wheeler, Nathan Wheeler, …”
  • James Russell, Junr, was our 1C8R who commanded Carlisle’s minute company.

  • The two Wheelers are doubtless our kin, but I need to look into them more closely. I’m aware of a Simon and a Nathan in the vicinity, but both of them died before our Rebellion.
