Merry, Wilson J.

Feb 14, 1910

Death of Wilson J. Merry, a Highly Esteemed Young Man.

Wilson J. Merry, son of Sarah J. Merry and the late Gottlieb Merry, died at his mothers home Saturday evening at 6 oclock. He had been ill about ten days with pneumonia. This was complicated by extreme heart weakness. Mr. Merry had been very ill throughout the attack, but the family and friends had begun to have hopes, as he had passed the crisis and during the two days, had shown some improvement. The end came peacefully and without warning. Mr. Merry had not been well for some months and it was on this account that he left his position in Utica at the beginning of the year with the hopes that a few months rest and recreation would restore him to normal health. Wilson J. Merry was born in Verona , July 4, 1885 and was a young man of much natural ability. If there was one thing more that another that predominated his nature it was his genial temperament and sunny disposition. He was a friend to all and so all were his friends. He spent his early life and young manhood in Verona and continuously attended Verona High School until his graduation in 1902. During the school year of 1903, he attended Oneida High School and at fall entered Syracuse University. Here he took up the course of mechanical engineer. While in Syracuse he was actively identified with all its college interests, educational, social and athletic. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After two years in Syracuse he left to accept a position in the shoe business with Hurd & Fitzgerald of Utica. This position he occupied until by ill health he was forced to give it up. Mr. Merry was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Verona, and of the Baraca class of the same church. While the whole community greatly mourns the loss of one of its members who was so greatly esteemed, it is to the immediate family that the loss comes the heaviest and especially to the mother and sister at home. The sympathy of the whole community goes out to them in their sorrow. The funeral will be held from the home Tuesday at 2 p.m. and burial will be made n Verona Cemetery.
