Roy
went to Ashton Court when he was 21 (1929) and remarked: It was very beautifully
furnished. There were big portraits of all the titled people hanging in the
halls, like you would see in a movie. In 1981 he went again the caretaker
showed him through the place. All the beautiful paneling was torn off the
walls. It was like a great big empty warehouse (sort of). The man was so
taken with Roy and being that he did't
know of any family members left, he gave Roy a key (about a foot long)
that goes to one of the towers. The caretaker had another one. |
