A profile of his grandson JDC Atkins say s "His paternal grandfather (also named John Atkins) was born in Anson County, NC; married a Miss Richards of a NC family, daughter of a Revolutionary solider, and moved to Stewart County, TN, where he died. He was a farmer and a citizen of considerable weath. he raised a large family of sons and daughters, every one of whom succeeded well in life and became wealthy for their day." [1059]
