How to use

  1. Use AOL Keyword "FTP"
  2. Click on the "Go To FTP" button
  3. An "Anonymous FTP" Window will pop up.
  4. click on the "Other Site" button.
  5. An "Ohter Site" Window will pop up.
  6. In the "Site Address" box add the url for the computer you will connect with
    1. On Rootsweb this is "users.rootsweb.com".
    2. On Crosswinds this is"ftp.crosswinds.net".
    3. On Fortune City this is "ftp.fortunecity.com".
  7. Make sure you mark the "Ask for login and password" box.
  8. The "Remote Sign-On" window will pop up.
  9. In the "Pleas Enter your login name" box enter the site Id you are given when you set up your account.
    1. On Rootsweb this is usually your state abrevation &county name.
      ie: "coarapah" or "cofremon".
    2. On Crosswinds this is your email account name.
    3. On Fortune City this is assigned when you set up your account.
  10. In the "Password" box enter the password that is given you when you set up your account. These are always Case Sensitive! It is a good idea to copy and paste.
Uploading
  1. Once connected you will see the "Connected to" window. with these options:
  2. "Open" -opens the directory or file
  3. "Download Now" -starts the Download process.
  4. "Utilities" - Where you can rename, or delete files, or directories.
  5. "Upload" - to upload with
  6. "Create Directory" - to make a new directory folder.
  7. "Help" - I have not used so don't know how good this is.
  8. "More" - I have not used this either, so don't know for sure on it either.
  • Dubble Click or highlight and use the "Open" Button, on the public_html directory.
    This is the directory you want to send files to.
