Jacob and Pena Shoffner Farmer

Jacob Farmer, the youngest child of Christian Farmer (immigrant), was born on December 4, 1782 in North Carolina, probably in Guilford County. He married Phillipena “Pena” Maria Shoffner, born October 30, 1789 in North Carolina, on October 23, 1816 in Orange County, North Carolina. Around 1824, they moved to Morgan County, Indiana. They purchased land in Hendricks County (just north of Morgan County) in 1825. They lived the rest of their lives in Morgan and Hendricks counties.

The couple had nine children:

George, b. 1821

Delilah, b. 1823

Margaret, b. 1825

Katherine, b. 1828

Elizabeth “Eliza”, b. 1832

Mary, b. 1833

William, b. 1837

Jane, b. 1840

Jacob and Pena are found in the following federal census records:

1840 in Hendricks County, Indiana with all the above kids except John or Leonard

1850 in Guilford township, Hendricks County, Indiana (Jacob, Pena, Eliza, Mary, and Jane.)  George is next door one way and Leonard is next door on the other side.

Jacob died on September 17, 1861.  Pena died on August 15, 1865.  Both were buried at the Salem United Methodist Cemetery in Hendricks County, Indiana.
