David K. Clapper lived from November 8, 1864 to January 16, 1927. He was born and reared in Bedford County, his parents being Samuel and Nancy (Kagarise) Clapper. He became a Christian on February 16, 1881, at New Enterprise, and was married to Rachel Hoover on January 25, 1885.
Mr. Clapper was a farmer for several years, after which he became employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. During his time at home and in his caboose he carried his books with him, educating himself in many things, including the Bible. The Hyndman church called him into the ministry on September 25, 1890; and the Meyersdale church ordained him as an elder on May 15, 1915. In 1907 he decided to devote all his time to the Lord.
Many evangelistic meetings were preached by him, and he served as pastor of the Meyersdale church for a year and a half and was elder of several churches. He was the treasurer in our district, of the committee on selection and support of missionaries on the foreign field in the first years of its existence.

Earl D. CLAPPER 68, of James Creek R.D. former Hopewell Township Tax Collector, died unexpectedly at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 1978, at his home. Born July 31, 1910, in Cherrytown, he was the son of Oliver C. and Blanche A. (Dorman) CLAPPER. He is survived by his wife, the former Minnie L. RUSSELL.Also surviving are three brothers and one sister: Milford H. CLAPPER, Huntingdon R.D.1; Rawleigh L. CLAPPER, Martinsburg; Ray D. CLAPPER, Saxton; and Alice M. CLAPPER, of James Creek R.D. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Russellville, and served as Sunday School treasurer for a number of years.By profession he was a watch repairman and served as a tax collector for 28 years.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Albert N. Masood Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev. Glenn Sadler and the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment will be made in the Reformed Cemetery, Russellville. Friends may call at the funeral chapel Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday until the hour of the services.
