- Martha E. commenced teaching at the age of fourteen and taught school until her marriage. She was engaged as colporteur by the Baptist Publication Society for Chelsea, Mass., for several years. The churches seeing the good results of her labors in that capacity, urged her to be the city missionary of Chelsea, and she remained in that business ever since. She took care of fourteen abandoned infants and gave them into good homes. At the age of seventy she enjoyed uninterrupted good health and her vigor was not abated. Her labors since the death of her husband were been freely given from choice.1
