According to Bertha McCormick in 1954 Melissa Humphrey's mother's name was Adeline Crag. However, no confirmation of this fact can be established. In 1860 census for Kanawha County (WV) page 148 his wife was listed as Nancy. In the 1880 census no wife listed for Lewis. Also in the 1880 census a person by the name of Adaline Craigg is listed as mother-in-law to and living with Edward Stone.

In the 1850 mortality schedule shows that a Lewis Humphrey died November 1849 at the age of 63. No other single or widowed female Humphrey is listed in the 1850 Kanawha County census. Was this Lewis, Elizabeth's husband and the father of Lewis?

In the 1880 census for Kanawha County list Lewis age 50, no wife, children as follows: Charles C. age 13, Victoria E. age 10.

Wife's General Notes
According to Bertha McCormick in 1954 Melissa Humphery's mother's name was Adelin Crag. However, no confirmation of this fact can be established. In 1860 census for Kanawha County (WV) page 148 the spouse was most likely to be Nancy. The relationship between Lewis and Nancy is only speculation. It may have been his sister, aunt, etc. and not his wife. His wife may not have been alive during the senses.

"Grandma McCormick looked like an Indian.....tall, slim, dark complected with long black hair. Grandma McCormick fell while visiting in Kate Hanna Hollow and broke her hip. While recuperating she met a man by the name of Mooney and later married him." (Recollections of Myrtle McCormick Norris)

Conrad Jones provided April 26 1852 as the date of birth. However, that does not fit with date of marriage. Strongly believe that date of 1862. It fit with marraige and births of the other children.
