General Notes for Child James "X" Thaxton Sr.
James "X" received his middle name from the distinctive manner in which he signed his name "X". He could not read or write. He died sometime between 1785 and 1790. He is listed with his son David on Virginia tax census of 1785 and does not appear on the 1790 US census.
"Early Settlers of Prince Edward Co. VA" states that a James Thackston acquired 1020 acres of land on the Buffalo River on 25 July 1749.
