Map of England (UK) Counties
Henry Oxley was born in Molrdige, Derbyshire, England. The earliest English settlements in the district which is now Derbyshire were those of the West Angies.  During their northern conquests in the 6th century they pushed their way up the valleys of the Derwent and the Dove.  In the 9th century the district suffered frequently from the ravages of the Danes.  In 942 Edward the Elder regained Derby, which had fallen under the Danish yoke.  In 1049 the name Derbyshire was first recorded in the Old English form Deorbyscir which means the district associated with Derby.   The city name of Derby was derived via the Danes who occupied the area during the ninth century, from the Old Norse djùr and bý, meaning deer village.

The County of Derbyshire is located in the very heart of England, bordered on the east by Nottinghamshire, on the south by Leicestershire, on the west by Stafforshire, on the northwest by Cheshire and on the north by Yorkshire (West Riding).  Derby is the largest town in the county.  The county remained basically agricultural, with a little quarrying and mining of lead and some coal until the late 17th century.  A silk mill at Derby, the country's first modern factory built in 1717, and the first water powered cotton mill at Cromford built in 1771 were the beginning of a major textile industry.  Iron, steel and engineering developed on a large scale during the 19th and early 20th
centuries.  In 1908 Rolls Royce Ltd., known for their aircraft engines and luxury cars, established their first factory at Derby.

The county of Derbyshire is marked on the map with an    .  The name of Derbys is short for Derbyshire.  The best we can determine, Morledge is a street in the city of Derby.  It can be found on a map at the website http://www.upmystreet.com/l
