John Abney Chapman, 1821-1906
     John Abney CHAPMAN, son of John Nathan CHAPMAN and Sophia ABNEY, was born on 9 March 1821 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He was an author and historian. In 1892 he wrote The Annals of Newberry and in 1897 the History of Edgefield County, along with other works.

John Abney CHAPMAN died on 9 September 1906 in Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina, at age 85. He was buried in Chapman-Summers Cemetery "Old Dunker".
