Isaac Goldbecker

Before the war

He was born in July 1823 (9; 4 (37 in 1861), 6 [26 in 1860], 7 [46 in 1870], 8 [57 in 1880], 9 [76 in 1900], 10 [50 in 1870], 12 [80 years, 6 months 6 days at death]). He was born in Bavaria, Germany (4, 6 [Baden], 7 [Bavaria], 8 [Bavaria], 9 [Germany], 12 [Germany]).

He immigrated to the US in 1827 (9). He was a naturalized citizen by 1870 (7, 9).

In 1849/50, he married Barbara [unknown family name] (9). In 1900, she had had five children, all of whom were alive (9).

In 1860, he was living in ward 12, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with Barbara (presumably his wife), and with Rebecca, Theresa, Louis, and Adolf (presumably their children) (6). He was a lithographer (6).

When he enlisted, he was a printer (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 20 August 1861 as a corporal in company A (1, 3, 4, 13, 14, 15). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Starr (4).

He was discharged at Alexandria, Virginia, on 9 July 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 4). He was a corporal in company A (1, 13, 14, 15). He may be the Corporal Goldberg who is reported to have been Jewish (5).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 13, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania--perhaps at 810 Noble Street (7, 10). He was living with Barbara (presumably his wife), Rebecca, Theresa, Lewis, Adolph, and Raphael (presumably their children) (7, 10). He was a printer (7).

In 1880, he was living at 1314 Myrtle Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his son Raphael, and daughter Theresa Goodman and her husband (8). He was a nickel plater (8).

In 1900, he was living at 1713 North 11th Street, ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Barbara, daughter Theresa Goodman, and Theresa's husband Lapold (9). He was a printer (9).

From 1900 to 1905, he continued living at 1713 North 11th Street (11). He was not working (11).

On 10 January 1905, he died, at 1713 North 11th Street, ward 20, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12). He died of arteriosclerosis, with emphysema of the lungs contributing (12). He was widowed (12). He was not working (12). On 12 January 1905, he was buried at Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (12).
