He enlisted and was mustered in company K on 2 December 1861 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Parsons (3, 4). He was a private, in company K (1, 9).
He was transferred on 24 December 1861 to company C (1, 5).
He died of consumption, on 11 May 1862, at the regimental hospital in Alexandria, Virginia (1, 2, 3, 4, 8). He was a private, in company C (9). His body was sent to his family in Pennsylvania (2). He was buried on 15 May 1862, from Old York Road, near Branchtown, the home of his brother-in-law, Henry Baker (8).

HARKINSON--On the 11th instant, JOHN HARKINSON, in the 22d year of his age, at Alexandria, Virginia.
The relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral, from the residence of his brother-in-law, Henry Baker, near Branchtown, Old York Road, on Thursday, May 15th, at 2 o'clock.
