Daniel J. SARRATT, was 14y when he came to Brown County from
North Carolina in 1836 with his father, Absalom,1 SARRATT.
He was listed with his father and youner brother, Jeremiah,
in the 1840 census, but by 1842 his father must have been dead,
for Daniel appeared on the 1842 Tax list indicating he was then
"Head of the household" when he was 19 or 20. [REF:#90, Pg112]
In 1839 (sic 1849 ..prs) Daniel J. SARRATT, a27y aapplied for 40 acres
from the government in Brown Co., Versailles Township in Section 11
and he received the patent in 1843, but he was not destined to remain
on the farm. He soon moved into Mt.Sterling and in 1854, and on
Dec. 02, 1854 he was commissioned Sheriff of Brown County for two years.

Prior to this, (1843) he had married Sarah Cox, daughter of Joseph COX
and Cynthia Brockman, she was born in Virginia but she grew up
in Kentucky and emigrated to Brown County in the 1830's.

Mrs Sarah (COX) SARRATT apparently died before 1880 because
Daniel J. had moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he lived with
a younger wife named "Mollie" or Mary and a little son.
His older son, Robert A., remained in Mt. Sterling and was working
for a farmer in 1880. It is not known what happened to his two
daughters. [REF:#90, Pg112]
In Kansas City, KS. Daniel worked for R. Falconer as a "Cooper",
this was consistent because he always listed his occupation as
"Cooper" in the records in Brown County, IL.
He died about 1886. [REF:#90, Pg112]
