From Dorothy Chance's paper:
"Departed this life on the 24th July. John Pressly Brice, aged 24 years and 7 months...He graduated in Erskine College about the year 1856, studied law, and settled in Washington, Ark., where he pursued his profession. He joined the army in March last, and served in the Artillery Department as 2nd Lieutenant in Fort Pillow. After a time he was ordered to Corinth, but falling sick, he returned to his father, William Brice, Fairfield District on the 4th June where he died on the 24th of July, of an affection of the lungs."
