Quote Gary E.Young Review of will of Elizabeth Roades WillsSX L:104
1) If you really study the will of Elizabeth Roades it is hard to believe she was not mother of all of the children. Of course, we must remember that in those days people used the terms son and daughter to include children, step-children, sons and daughters-in-law, etc. But
having said that, they rarely left all their property to step-children Elizabeth's first, elaborate and most complex bequests were to her "beloved daughter Martha Tull.".
Martha was definitely Dr.Roades' oldest daughter. If, for example, she was a step-daughter to Elizabeth, it means that Elizabeth would only have been close to her for less than a 10 year period after her marriage to John Roades (assuming obviously that she married Roades after the birth of Werenia). For Martha did not accompany the Roades when they left Somerset Co and moved to Delaware, for she married about that time to Richard Tull and remained in Somerset. So 20 some years later we would have the peculiar situation of a
step-mother in Delaware making extensive and primary provision for her step-daughter who had not even lived near her for 20+ years.
2) Elizabeth made provisions in her will for one of Martha's sons and for Rachel Fausett who is apparently Martha's daughter.
3) Elizabeth made extensive provisions for three of the children of John Roades Jr.(by then deceased, of course)
4) Elizabeth made extensive provisions comparable to her provision for Martha Tull was made to her Beloved daughter Mary (Wells) Morgan.
