FIRST GENERATION 1. LT. William KING was born on 29 Sep 1695 in Suffield, Hartford, CT He was christened on 29 Sep 1695 in Suffield, Hartford, CT. His WILL ON FILE on 2 Nov 1772, in Hartford, CT. He died on 8 Jan 1774 in Suffield, Hartford, CT. He was elected in 1734 a selectman and several years thereafter 1736, 39, 43, 50, 52, 58, 66, 69. He was Frequently moderator of the town meetings. For several years he was a Deputy to the General Assembly. Deputy [contemporary with Captain Samuel Kent, May 1762 both representing Suffield] in the General Assembly. He inherited much of his father's estate; and left the best-landed interest in Suffield He was a farmer and weaver. He married first Bethia Bedlake of Westfield, Mass she died May 21, 1768. He married 2nd Feb 1770/71 Widow Anna Adams. By first marriage he had 12 children of whom 11 died before him without families No issue by 2nd marriage. He was a LT. in the military Co. a very capable businessman and much respected. In the silver Communion Service of the first congregational Church at Suffield may still be seen four silver goblets, a part of the supplies provided for by The will of William King. Parts the Will of William King In the name of God Amen; This 2nd day of November Anon Domain 1772 I William King of Suffield in the County of Hartford and Colony of CT. in New England etc. And touching such Worldly Estate as it pleased GOD to bless me with in this life. I give Demise and dispose of thereof in the following manner [to wit] Imprimis. I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Anne, one third part of my home lot where I now live [viz.] the south part beginning about 10 foot south of my well etc. also my house and one half the barn, that is to say the use and improvement of said land and buildings so long as she shall continue to be my widow, and also one third part of my house hold furniture during her natural life also 20 pounds the one half in money the other half in cattle or sheep. I give and bequeath to my beloved son William king All my lands and buildings in the township of Suffield, excepting the improvements of what I have before given to my wife. I also give to my son William [he paying and doing as above and hereafter mentioned] all my personal Estate debts [viz.] my stock of cattle, horses and sheep and all other my Personal estate, Debts, and dues whatever. I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson, William Gay, about 80 acres of land I have in Granville, alias Bedford if he arrive to the age of 21 years. I give to the first church at Suffield ten pounds to supply the communion table with such things, as the Rev. Mr. Gay shall think proper. I give to the Rev. Ebenezer Gay 10 pounds lawful money which legacies I order and direct to be paid within one year after my decease. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my son William King, Messrs. LEAVITT) on 25 Nov 1773 in Suffield, Hartford, CT. Thaddeus LEAVITT ESQ was born about 1750. He died on 22 Jan 1813 in Suffield, Hartford, CT. Thaddeus Leavitt was one of the eight original purchasers of the Western Reserve. He was a principal trader in Suffield CT. and had a large store there. He built his house there in 1773. On 21 May, 1785 Thaddeus [Then 35 years old] wrote in his diary " this day launched at Windsor on the Connecticut River the brig Mercury Burcon 100 tunes. Owned by Nathaniel Howard, Andrew Hilyer, Josiah Bissel and Thaddeus Leavitt." Then on July 30, 1785 he wrote " This day sailed from New London for the West India Islands the Brig Mervury with a cargo of horses oxen and lumber one quarter of which is owned by me.
