TANNER and Martha Ann
ANDERSON. 1 -
Perry Gilliland, per his death certificate, died in
Refugio, TX. He had been a plumber.

Sam H. Gilliland was a plumber. -
Sam and Perry's death certificates gave me clues that their father, who

-
William P. Brightwell died at age 79 in
an auto accident. On his death certificate, his mother is listed as
"Frances Gilliland". Was he a son to Frances Gilliland (above)? Or did
the informant, Mrs. W. P. Brightwell, get it wrong? -
Virginia (under name "Frances
V.") (Brightwell) and George Baum. Per his death certificate, George died by
accidental gun shot. Virginia's death certificate finally gave me J. P.'s first name - Joseph. Her mother is listed as "Mary Ann Gilleland". -

Notes: |
-
The Gilliland's were early settlers in Cocke County in the mountains of
Eastern Tennessee before 1800 and Samuel Gilliland, probably John's
older brother, received a "2/3 league, 1 labor" land grant (between 2000
and 3000 acres) in San Augustine in 1834 before Texas was a Republic.
The Gilliland's lived in Zavala, in Angelina County, as did the Windham's.
John's father, Eli, was one of the "Old Three Hundred" who were awarded
Land Grant No. 566 as a "colonist and soldier". Rebecca and John moved
to Tarrant County, Texas, where their third child was born in 1853.
-
Rebecca is buried at
Tecumseh Cemetery,
CallTX. John T. is buried at the Granbury Cemetery,
Hood County, TX. -
