Rites Held Wednesday for Mrs. J. H. Straley
Date April 1959 (not sure the exact date of article)

   Funeral services for Mrs. J. H. Straley were held at the Oplin Baptist  Church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock under the direction of Evant Funeral Home.

   The Rev. M. F. Richardson officiated.

   Born Maggie Popnoe on December 27, 1867, she moved to Coleman County in 1886 from Fannin County, her birthplace. She was married to J. H. Straley and moved to Oplin in Callahan County where they lived for many years and reared a family of 11 children.

   She was a charter member of the Oplin Baptist church and worked in the church throughout her life.

   She passed away April 20, 1959 at the age of 91.  She was preceded in death by her husband, J. H. Straley, and two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Avery and Mattie Straley.

   Surviving are four sons, Lee Straley and C. D. Straley of Oplin and Dee Straley and H. B. Straley of Lampasas; five daughters, Mrs. J. D Windham (obit has an incorrect middle initial, it should be "W") of Midland, Mrs. C. O. Lawler of Lamesa, Mrs. T. S. McIntyre of Ralls, Mrs. Forrest Windham of Muleshoe and Mrs. Mrs. Leslie Davis of Lampasas; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

   Pallbearers were Don Davis, John Straley, Harold McIntyre, Charley Tom Straley, Jack Straley, Charles J. Lawler, Orval Lawler and Leland Straley.
